Ouch, never thought that way but that's a really good point.

As long as it's not the Raptors who are going to pay him. I don't really mind him getting paid

He shouldn't be getting more than Brogdon's 85M/4. I think Masai might pay him that just as an asset to trade. He definitely has value as a role player off the bench for a contender. Or as a starting shooting guard next to a tall PG - so they can switch on defensive assignments.

If we pay him as the starting lead guard that he wants to be, we are handicapping ourselves for a long time.

Give FVV 80M/4Y. He's worth it, way better than Kyle was at that age and he's a proven product and trade asset.

Gasol walks.

Ibaka walks. Unless you get him for under 18M (which I doubt)

Give Lowry one more fat contract for another year.

FVV is the perfect example of a player that you keep at the beginning of his career while he's cheap and then you let go because of the money. He's easily replacable and will probably be an overpaid on a bad team with cap space.

and be stuck with a mediocre PG with no upside - you saw him play - dude has super tunnel vision - armed with a big salary for the next 4 years? na. I would DEFINITELY try to sign and trade him though. any team that is over the cap right now and need a PG, Masai should investigate immediately.

Don't hold your breath.

I remember the exact same rhetoric and vibe when Kyle ran into Paul Pierce's armpit to end a series a few years ago. Too small, not skilled enough, attitude will only take him so far etc.

He'll get paid and the Raps are the most likely to pay him.

Wouldn't give him more than 15/year, and even then I'm looking hard at other options.

Dudes that small nowadays can only succeed if they are on a different level like Lillard, CJ, Kemba, Curry, Kyle etc.. Get this wack ass out of here.

Unfortunately there are NO worthy guards in the free agency class this year

can't expect the same results. that would be foolish.

He needed to go quickly and preserve the 2 for 1. When that wasn’t possible he panicked. Thought he needed a 3 at all costs. The lane was open. Penetration and an easy 2 at the rim then play the foul game was the play. Celtics were not giving up a three but he pressed anyway. Mistake to learn from.

Either let him walk or extract value out of him by a sign and trade.

Fvv is not Kyle Lowry.

And while we’re at it; Siakam isn’t Giannis 2.0. Let’s not hand out more terrible contracts. Better to be Conservative especially coming up to another questionable season amidst a global pandemic.

Clearly not worth the max.

That said, someone might pay him that

Lets be real here. Despite Fred's flaws, Masai has no choice but to pay whatever it takes to keep him. Kyle is OLD man, still better then Fred, but OLD. He has maybe a year or two before he retires. We have nobody else who can step in and replace Kyle. Nobody in the system as a realistic option.

Part of me expects Masai to let someone over pay Fred and Serge, then use that as an excuse to trade Kyle and get on with a full rebuild. Pascal sure didn't seem max worthy, but we maxed him, so now we have to rebuild around him. He IS still a rather unique PF who can guard everyone, but with out his scoring touch, he will be greatly over paid. Work on it Pascal, and come back and prove to every Raptor fan that you are worth the money.

On the other hand, IF Pascal had had his shooting touch, we would have torched the Celtics. It was only a battle because we were missing SO MANY uncontested 3s, and SO MANY 2 foot gimmies and layups. Their D wasn't better than ours. Their shooting was, and that gave them just enough of an edge. Marc looked done this series. I'd bring him back on a cheap deal, but then make him the backup C. If we can bring FVV back, make him the backup PG until it is time to have him take over for Kyle. Advance Powell to starting SG. Ibaka, man, I'm torn. I really don't want to lock into a big, multi-year contract only to see him revert to the first two years of his last deal. He ran pretty well during this past season, but was way too streaky in the playoffs. He didn't earn the big buck next contract in my humble opinion. If the Knicks or someone over bid for him, let him walk or try to do a S&T for some assets.

Bring the whole gang back and we could be as good next season, despite our old guys being a year older. But the Celtics are young and only getting better and better. Next season is the season Covid killed (few if any fans at games), so IF a rebuild is something that Masai decides has to happen, then I'm ok with getting on with it ASAP. I'm also good with keeping the gang together (if the cost doesn't put us on a treadmill for the next 4 years), and watching us attempt to get to the finals again.

I'll spend the off season dreaming about somehow landing Giannis. Good luck with what comes next Masai.
