Raps obviously felt they could contend with this group so didn't make any trades. But it likely would've been in our long term interests to trade Ibaka, FVV, etc at the deadline. We now risk losing them for nothing.
I'm also concerned we don't have much going for us this off season and next season. Even "running it back" is not a good option. Next year the Celtics, Bucks, Nets, Heat will all be competitive. With no roster changes we're probably looking at being the 4-6 seed.
What assets do we have available this off season? Not many in my opinion. We likely aren't trading Lowry. I doubt we give up on Siakam. TD is a good project worth keeping. Don't think it makes sense to trade OG. Norm is the only guy we are likely willing to trade and who other teams will find valuable.
I think this off season and next season will be tough. We're looking at a border line playoff team with a peak of making it to the 2nd round again.
Nah no one said we can contend but these guys like masai said before the season started, they deserve it and earned the right to play together and it was a success. We're still in the same level as the heat, sixers and the Bucks. We don't rebuild under Ujiri. Go pack your stuff. It's just a retool. Only 2 teams can advance to the ecf.
I don't like the thinking that only winning it all or nothing is the way. As a organization you have responsibilities for the players, the city, the fans to give everything you can and stay winning. The spurs never thought about rebuilding as long their guys are playing or the Detroit pistons in the mid 2000. You have to try, year after year. That's the only way.
