Funny how it's always strays from other teams going on about Brogdon like they know anything at all about the situation.

I mean when you're going to other teams forums to tell them how stupid their team is, I don't think you're looking for an actual discussion about the logic of letting brogdon go.

If Giannis felt that strongly about keeping Brogdon, Brogdon would be a Buck right now.

Re: Giannis Thread - Met with ownership pg 6
Odds and ends:
1) I have no problem with the owners meeting with Giannis to tell them their commitment to him, but why only Lasry and not the other owners? And if you're going to talk about the season and Giannis's thoughts on trades, etc. shouldn't the GM be the point person and not the owner? Lasry is the guy who foisted Kidd on us. I think this undermines Horst or is Horst just someone who collects advanced stats?
2) Brogdon would not have made us a champion this year, but he is tons better than Bledsoe. Bledsoe is a good defender, but so is Brogdon. And Bledsoe's one supposed offensive advantage is taking it to the hoop and he rarely did that in these playoffs. Bledsoe is also someone who clearly can't handle the bright lights. He has to go.
3) Has Horst gone on sabbatical? Not meeting with Giannis? Would the GMs of Toronto, Boston or Miami let the owner intervene like this and cut them out?

It's as simple as this.

BigoO, you are catching on. Under the terms of the ownership agreement, Wes Edens had full control in the event of disagreements for the first five years of ownership. Lasry then takes over for the next five years (June 2019 to June 2024).
Edens used the power in 2017/2018 to prevail on the hiring of Horst and hiring of Bud. Lasry will be enjoying his day in the saddle now for another four years. He’s going to be like our Mark Cuban, except that Mark Cuban inherited Donn Nelson (Dirk and Luka). So we might be more a Dan Snyder experience here.

Besides the ultimate irony of him and the Pacers getting, you know, actually swept against the Heat in the previous round, you wouldn't have had Hill, or the guy that actually played the best defense on Butler all series, in Wes. We'd be in the same exact situation, except we'd be facing the repeater tax a year earlier.
It was the perfect storm, as the Pacers did go 6-2 in the regular season bubble schedule. So that draft pick dropped from 18 to 24.
It was pretty much the equivalent of a Price is Right wheel, that after being spun, landed on $100,000 but inexplicably slipped one notch to $1,000 at the last second

Didn't Wes Matthews sign a minimum salary deal? So we could have signed him still even if we had Brogdon. We chose Bledsoe over Brogdon, that probably had something to do with Brogdon wanting to leave.

If Embiid is on the block do you pick up the phone and gauge interest?
Bucks tricked me into being a diehard in 2001, LeBron is the 2nd best player ever, and pizza is awesome.

Brogdon was a good and valuable piece to us when healthy. In the regular season having a player like him didn't matter. Not having another ballhandler in the playoffs did. Shocked more people only reacted to it after the more meaningful games.
Horst sucks.
Horst sucks.

Re: Giannis Thread - Met with ownership pg 6
I think it's perfectly reasonable to realize that Brogdon is a good to great player while also realizing that the Bucks had a tough offseason last year to navigate and that someone (or someones) was gonna have to go. Brogdon had value. Bledsoe could've just walked. If the shoe were on the other foot and we had lost this series because of a porous defense (that Brogdon over Bledsoe would absolutely not have helped), then we'd be wondering why we had kept Brogdon for $20 million while letting Bledsoe go for nothing. It's a lose-lose situation in a zero-sum game.

Re: Giannis Thread - Met with ownership pg 6
I really wanted Brogdon back, and he was even my personal No.1 priority to re-sign going into last year's free agency.
But having said that, there was undoubtedly some logic in not bringing him back and many legitimate reasons why he wasn't brought back.

Tactically speaking, couldnt the Bucks let Giannis expire in 2021, sign a couple guys, then use his bird rights to go into the lux tax? If they dont guarantee Hill its looking like theyd be at $76M on the books.
Obviously a risky proposition and i havent given much thought to who those guys would be, but a quick glance at the FA list shows some talent.

Having someone like Brogdon would certainly help. For the role he would play on this team, I think you could find a guy for cheaper or a combo for the same money.
