Post#1 » by rim_killa » Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:28 am

i question everything he does.

i would be worried if he was the future leader (starting pg) of this team.

He can shoot open shots, pull-ups, handle the ball and play D which makes him great working as a secondary ball handler and SG

Dont trust him driving to the basket to create or creating his own shot so I hope he is neve given the starting PG role

Not when he’s running the offence.

You're not the only one. In an ideal world, you wouldn't be thinking that, and in a very imperfect world, you wouldn't be the only one. Not only is this a very imperfect world, it is a very boisterously imperfect world.

He's short and not that athletic. He's only in the NBA because of his superior bball IQ. Bad decision on his last shot this season, doesn't mean he suddenly became an idiot.

He's a smart player but overconfident. Tries to punch above his weight way too often. Would be a far more effective player if he didn't force deep 3s and layups.

He can't see the floor like Lowry and finishes in the bottom of the nba at the rim. Great shooter especially off the catch. But no lead guard.

He's kind of like a SG with some playmaking ability in a short PG body.

My viewpoint on Fred is simple. At 9mil a season, you take what he gives you and RUN. Because he has played beyond the value of his contract. In an ideal situation, you give him around 17-20mil (which is what a lot of comparable PGs have been given lately) and at least retain the asset if you don't think he's the long-term fit at PG.

The issue becomes... he's likely going to get over 20mil (potentially way over 20mil) because there are always teams that want to make a big splash in free agency. At 25-30mil, his faults are magnified by a lot. I mean, look at Pascal this season. I think he had a good overall season but his shortcomings are harder to take when the player is making nearly 30mil. There are people who want to run the guy out of town.

You run into a similar situation with Fred. I think he's worth more than his current contract but he's not worth 25-30mil. You'd be paying potentially 60mil for Fred and Pascal. Think back to the last play of game 7. Fred dribbling the ball, not running anything, and then jacking up an airball when there was plenty of time to get a two and extend the game. That is a lot harder to take when that is a max/near-max player doing that. People would've gone crazy and called for him to be traded.

He got too much of a shooter in him.

There are way too many times I cringe when he takes a shot (ill-advised) but then it goes in and I'm like "Oh..."

He has a tendency to run into defenses and get trapped or offensive foul which honestly caused us game 7 vs the celtics. He forced too many turnovers. He ain't my pg.

he has a low ceiling. so thats the problem. he can project out to a all-star reserve if all the guards in the East are injured.

he's not beating out Kyrie, Kemba, Trae Young, Ben Simmons, Beal, Jaylen Brown (if they place him as a SG), Marcus Smart (could be a break out season if he starts), Jimmy Butler (whatever they classify him) or even a recovered John Wall in a voting match.

he's not going to turn a franchise around or take the franchise to the next level. he's just going to be a steady role player on the Raptors for years to come. as a general rule, you try to trade players like him and upgrade in talent by grouping him with other assets.

Totally agree with this. I think he is the perfect candidate to be a slower methodical floor general. My only concern is by the time we have a new season he turns 27. So we pay him as much for what he has done for us as for what is to come. Intangibles. He fits like a glove with this group and has serious leadership potential. I do not think he will ever be as good as Lowry mainly because he doesn't have Lowry's aggressive motor. A close second though and the potentail to be the second best point guard we've ever had. Lowry is the best Raptor we've ever had.

One think I like about my PG is he should be looking to makes a play for others before thinking about scoring.

Fred is like a SG in a PG body.

You're not built like that and make it as a starter on a very good team in the NBA without excellent court awareness.

Honestly what are ppl even watching ...
