would obviously rather see him play in Europe than on another NBA team.
Without him, we would not be still NBA Champs

He can definitely get a 1 or 2 year contract in the NBA but he has a very clean NBA career right now. He's only played for 2 teams: 1 as a franchise player, 1 as part of a championship team. He'd be leaving as his stats are beginning to nose dive and he might have to come off the bench. Considering how well he did in FIBA last year, he might be able to prolong his career as a star and maybe add a few accolades to his career going over to Europe.

If he doesn't go to Europe, he'd likely take a back-up role in MEM, or UTA re-joining Conley.

Family comes first. At his age, young family, from a foreign country, retiring to Europe seems like a smart decision to me. Already made a ton of cash.

As much as I like Serge's personality, I'd rather have Gasol back next year over Ibaka. If we lose both guys, I don't know who we'd use to fill the C spot. Boucher isn't ready for starter minutes and Hernandez barely got playing time with the 905 due to injury. And I don't find any of the free agent big men all that appealing. Tristan on a MLE? Meyers Leonard? Bertans would be interesting but hes not really a C. I don't know what Baynes would command.

He gone.

I think it's not a bad play for Gasol to be honest, it could add to his legacy. He was a great addition to the team and we wouldn't have won without him.

I thought this was always a possibility. He won his ring, so unless he wants to win one more to match his brother, I think he is done with the NBA. Go home and be a national hero, play in a slower EuroLeague and end your career in a good note.

I would be good with giving him around that on a 1 year deal. Since own his Bird rights can use the MLE on 1 or 2 other players.

I would give him a little more than the MLE so most good teams would not be able to beat that.

$10 million / 1 year; the psychology of it still being an 8 figure salary would be respect.

Don't see any issue with us giving him a one year deal even if he is basically washed up now.

Let him go. He brought us a championship and I feel like the game as gotten too fast for him. Still a hell of a player, but I’d rather give his minutes to a younger big we can develop.

This guy is legit. NBA guys with credibility follow him plus he is plugged in to euroleague

Best move for him all around now that he got his last 26m. Best move for the Raps as well.

I would bring him off the bench unless against Embiid or Lopez. Needs to be a platoon matchup.

Would Serge take $20-18-20-18 million?

Maybe his time back home during the lockdown gave him some new-found perspective.

I also think he still has serviceable years left in the NBA, but he's made his money, he has his ring... why not

EDIT: America is #1 for active cases and Spain is #203. Adjust that for population any way you like.

Second edit: 2.5m active cases in America and 1157 for Spain.

At roughly 1/6th population of America that works out to around 7k cases and they have 2.5 million active cases right now.

Spain is drastically safer than America.

Spain isn't doing well because they got hit before anyone knew what was happening. Trump literally downplayed the impact of the virus at a time when he had the information. I think it's pretty obvious how different those scenarios are.

Between America (which has 25% of the world's COVID cases) and Spain who do you think will be better off in the next year?

Damn I was hoping for something around $15-18 on a 4 year deal. You think he gets that much?

That’s the contract I hope Fred signs to stay here.

With how covid has changed things I don’t doubt that he’s long gone. Didn’t have faith we’d even pay him enough to retain but hearing this, his heart really likely won’t be in it.

We’ll always have a bottle of wine waiting to chug though should you change your mind Big Espaina.

I would have him back if it was cheap enough. But the thing is, he only has a couple years left and doesn't much fit our new window so why not try to work someone else in there.

If GMs are going to judge guys on how they performed in the bubble only, I think there are going to be some big discount players out there.

Whatever he decides I support, he's definitely earned it. But you guys that want him to leave, what's your plan for handling Embiid/Vuc/Jokic when we play them?
