So Russ average 8 more points, 3 more rebounds, almost the same assists AND was more efficient than lowry

No competition.

LMAO one would think you'd learn by now that basketball is more than just empty stats...

I've heard this now a few times today. But he has 13 first team selections. does anybody top that? honestly that might be more impressive than the 16 total all nba. not sure anybody comes close to the 13 first teams and he may have one more in him. Kobe and Karl Malone with 11? MJ and Kareem have 10.

He benefitted from the vote occurring pre-bubble. Using the complete regular season, he had no argument over Tatum.

No argument is a hell of a stretch. They were neck and neck in counting offensive stats, and Siakam is a better defender. Not to mention the Raptors were the better regular season team with arguably a weaker roster surrounding Siakam.

There’s an argument, and realistically it’s a 2a 2b type situation, not some clear cut winner.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

This is not about who is better, Davis or Jokic, but who is center.

According to basketball-reference, Jokic played 100% of playing time this season on the center spot, while Davis most of his time (60%) played on PF spot behind classic centers McGee/Howard!

So, if we count Davis as the forward (as we should), the real all-NBA first team should be Doncic-Harden-LBJ-Giannis-Jokic, the 2nd team is Paul-Lillard-Kawhi-Davis-Gobert!

Lebron also played a majority of his time at PG. Would you prefer if they had bumped Harden to the second team and move Kawhi to the first team? As another poster mentioned, it seems they have quasi-moved on from picking the best player at a certain position... or at a minimum voting based on best at a given position has been inconsistently done.

Guys were able to put guys as they saw fit (some guys had multi position eligibility)

They wanted (the NBA) to get the best 15 players on here, and that meant that if the majority had our Lebron and Kawhi on their first team they would’ve been, however they didn’t.

This has nothing to with positional requirements and it simply was more people voted for AD over Jokic

Why not? Jokic is better.

He isn't. Jokic has better argument over giannis not AD.
As a regular season, no way. Giannis is far away unanimous 1st team and easily MVP this season. AD should be in the 2nd team as a forward.

Hes a less efficient [below league average TS] scorer that graded out as a worse defender by advanced stats. He wasnt better by any advanced stat other than ‘plays for my favorite team’.

Is defense important in basketball?

Of course. But ADs defense isn't enough to put him over Jokic. The impact and gravity Jokic brings on offense is just too much. AD has a career history of being a fairly ineffective lead guy. He's perfect on the Lakers as a 2nd option.

2nd option that leads his team in literally everything. Except assists. That Lebron gets by feeding the aforementioned “2nd option”. And he’s 1st team all NBA defense. I’m think 1a and 1b. Just like Murray and Jokic.

Because honestly, that at the moment is the only thing that lines up with these votes.

Both Siakam and Westbrook had a hot first month or so.

Westbrook had a hot 2020 pre-shutdown. In 23 games in Jan/Feb/Mar he averaged 32/8/7.

Middleton, who can play SG if necessary, get more points (82) than both third-team guards, but didn't reach all-NBA third team because he is nominated as forward.

Uhm. Here’s what it should’ve been for the year:

1st:
Paul
Luka
Lebron
Giannis
Davis

2nd:
Butler
Harden
Kawhi
Tatum
Embiid

3rd:
Lillard
Mitchell
Simmons
Siakam
Jokic

Meanwhile, Gobert was snubbed with the DPOY award. I don’t think he’s an All-NBA guy over Embiid or Jokic, but he deserved DPOY. I also think Lowry makes a good case over 4 of the guys in my 3rd team, but it’s a wash. Siakam had a great season until about Feb.

Replace Westbrook with Lowry or Kemba.

Jokic is a great player but AD deserved that spot. Jokic is a better offensive player but Davis is a better scorer and a way better defender. His team is also the top seed in the West.

Davis 1st team was a no brainer imo.

The difference on offence is as big as the difference on defence.

And AD won a few more games while being the second option to the GOAT.

The NBA cleared this up weeks ago.

LeBron is eligible at forward and guard, Davis is eligible at forward and center, Middleton is eligible at forward and guard, Butler as well.

There was no vote splitting between positions.
Most votes (combined at all eligible positions) got the spots.
