Terry @27 no way at 8 or 10 for me

Can someone tell me why he’s not good?
Basic knocks against Hampton: Loose handles makes it questionable that he can handle the point in the NBA, lacks ability to create shots off the dribble, doesn't shoot from 3, questionable intensity and inconsistent motor.
Basic pluses for Hampton: Hyped HS player, nice NBA athleticism, potential to play both back court positions, can finish, solid mid range game, some defensive upside and versatility.
I have seen comparisons to guys like Wil Barton (pretty good NBA player) and Dante Exum (kinda a flub).

Hmm.
I like Terry better than Nesmith that's for sure. I do not see much of anything more than a role playing jump shooter in Nesmith. I don't think Nesmith's physical tools will translate on the defensive end where he can be a 3 and D type (meaning I just see a 3 type). Vassell has the potential to evolve into something more than just a jump shooter, do see 3 and D (2 and D) type that potentially can create some for himself. Both guys upside is limited though with Nesmith's more so than Vassell's.
Terry is interesting. I see a guy with a lot of talent, with a lot of poise and a very good feel for the game (flow, teammates, spacing, defense, etc., etc.). My concern is the size and average athleticism but as we've seen you really don't need that to be successful in the NBA (see Steph Curry). Assuming everyone maximizes their potential, I see more potential in Terry than either Nesmith or Vassell for sure.
Will say that when I watch Terry play you can see that certain something that says, yeah this kid knows what he's doing and can be real real good in the NBA down the road when he gets stronger and older that a lot of guys heading into the draft don't have. I'm going to stop short of saying "star quality" but there is something about Terry's game that really is fascinating.
But I think the issue is you want to maximize the value of your picks given the position that it's at. So if I get the sense that teams value more establish roles and have guys like Vassell and Nesmith higher, then it would be more value for me to trade down, grab some additional something else and still draft the guy that I'm real high on (Terry). There are also a lot of point guard(ish) types in this draft which will dilute things at that position. Drafting Terry right there at 8? Yeah I don't think that would be the best move regardless of whether you think Terry is better or not in the long run.
Honestly, the Knicks basically got the 8th pick in a draft that has a 1st group of 6 or 7 guys LOL. As such I honestly would be looking to either move up or move down or move out. Don't really see, for the Knicks, a lot of value at staying at 8.

“ Empire Sports Media has learned yesterday that the Knicks have made their due diligence on Florida State University’s 3-and-D prospect Devin Vassell along with his one-and-done teammate Patrick Williams, the youngest college player in the Draft.
According to a highly placed source, the Knicks made a thorough background check on both players which wasn’t only confined to the coaching staff.
Very interesting, could we possibly leave the draft with both??
Would absolutely love that.
FSU should have been a final four team unless a major upset occurred. Their system might fit well with what Thibs wants to do, and both Vassell and Williams got more upside than their time in college showed because their coach believed in strictly managing minutes.

He seems to offer a similar skill set, with a touch less athleticism but more bball skills already displayed

Yes sir.
Terry has been on the radar for awhile, the kid is a stud. Now Vassell is extremely talented as a 3D guy, Okoro as a defensive stud or Williams as a versatile big.
But dam can Terry shoot and that IQ, the absolute best in this class.
?

Unless they can also turn the 2 later picks into one around 15 that would work as well.
If this happens just call me stupodamous....
