Whilst painting imagery that tells a different/unique story, Darnielle really delivers a song writer- this song speaks to me on the apprehension/fear/excitement/optimism of love and parenthood.
I just stumbled upon this version of it. I love it.
The best Mountain Goats song is "Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton."
God, he's a monster with the pen.
Such a great song, love the build of youthful rebellion up to the hail satans to finish.
When you punish a person for dreaming his dream,
Don't expect him to thank or forgive you
Wonderful.
If you haven't read them and you're in to literature check out his novels, very well written and interesting.
That's great, but No Children is just dark greatness.

Add Zella Day to the list of artists/bands who completely abandoned the sound that made them good in favor of something that sucks ass. "Kicker" was awesome. Her follow up is a legit 70s album. The 70s were trash for music.

Thanks for pointing out that it was out, I knew it was coming and completely missed it when it dropped.
It's wonderful, perfect dream state Flaming Lips to let my brain wind down to.

Listening to a mix of 80's songs as I'm doing some work around the house. The Outfield's "Your Love" comes on. Huge hit in the 80's.
So I decide to hit Google to see if they still perform anywhere. Come to find out Tony Lewis, their lead singer/bassist passed away 10 days ago at 62 years. Man..

Re: OT: 2019 Music Thread
Greetings, friends. Matt Berninger was Artist in Residence on a local radio station here (the best way I can describe the station would be the "NPRish network offshoot alternative music youth station offshoot for people who are no longer youths"), which is a weekly 2 hour set for the month. They will expire at some point, I'm hoping it's available overseas- he chats/plays tunes, general DJ sort of stuff.

Befitting their more content-factory tendencies,The Ringer rated the Top 50 Outkast songs. It's whatever to me, though "Toilet Tisha," "Slum Beautiful" and the banger below missed the cut:
I swear, this is probably in my top 5. Whew.

Not including this one is grounds to fire everyone involved.
If not for Elevators this would be my favorite.

Re: OT: 2019 Music Thread
Been on this big Americana/Folk/Country kick as of late and I'm obsessed with 2 albums from 2020
Jason Isbell - Reunions
Fave album of 2020. He's been around a while in Drive-By-Truckers and solo, but this is his masterpiece...every song is near pefect. His wife Amanda Shires (solo artist also in the Highwomen) is on it a lot. This one has a little backing from David Crosby.
Sturgill Simpson - Cutting Grass Vol 1.
Very bluegrass and not usually my thing, but I'm digging it. His last album Sound and Fury was also an Anime film and an amazing album. This is very different.

Outkast will always be my #1. Andre and Big Boi are the GOAT's. Outkast over everybody. I saw them live in Columbia, SC when I was 20. And then again 14 years later at Summerfest when my wife was pregnant with our first. I know lists are subjective, and I'm admittedly partial to the first three albums, but Liberation, Babylon, Jazzy Belle, West Savannah, Hootie Hoo are all ranked wayyyyy tooooo low.

"Liberation" sounds like it could have been made 50 years ago or 50 years into the future. I normally don't play the desert island game, but if I was limited to listening to one hip-hop album, "Aquemini" is it. No discussion necessary. There's rap records I've liked with more intensity over the years, but "Aquemini" is ageless.

Re: OT: 2019 Music Thread
Speaking of rankings, I randomly came upon this Consequence of Sound ranking of the best pop punk bands of all time list. I'm familiar enough to have an opinion on about 75 of those bands, and the rankings here are **** INFURIATING.
