New Center

Post#1 » by James2000 » Sat Sep 19, 2020 3:43 pm

Ok... I was watching the clippers playoff series with Dallas and Denver Series and the center play had killed the clippers chances. This series should have been over by game 5 or at most games 6. Paul George and Kawai did their jobs with their points, but the center play was non existent.

For instance zubac played 32 minutes for game 5 and have 5 points. Then he played 30 minutes for game 6 and had 2 points. Harrell had only 6points for game 5 and 5 points in game 6. This actually killed the clippers chances of winning a title.

I feel like that the clippers need to upgrade their center position roster. I would see about getting maybe Jared Allen from the nets, Noel's from the Oklahoma city thunder or julius Randle from the knicks.

Maybe free agents of DeMarcus cousins or something like that for the clippers.

What do you all think about this?

Harrell had 12 regular season games where he failed to grab at least 5 rebounds. He had less than 4 rebounds in 12 of 13 playoff games.

The guy isn't a center regardless of what Doc thinks and his lack of size was exploited.

Zubac made some strides in the post season and appears to have Kawhi's trust. He is also locked up on a reasonable deal for several years. You keep him and hope Kabengale brings the same energy as Harrell, but with the necessary size.

Would you sign DeMarcus cousins in free agency?

I think Marc gasol would be a good signing. However, I read he is considering returning to Spain

How about a trade with NY Knicks center julius Randle?

I sure think that experiment is worth giving it a try...

If he is healthy, I think that we can sign him to a prove me deal. He wants to get that last big contract, and we can provide the platform. In addition, if he becomes great, then we will likely have a bargain for the position.

Man, I've had a lot of similar thoughts to everyone on the board. Center play at times wasn't great in the playoffs on both sides of the ball. Julius Randle is a mobile, switching big that I do think would be a good fit. Though Demarcus may be a bit slow, especially after injuries, he really does have good hands and an attitude that I think would help the team.

Doc needs to just give Zubac more playing time. Period.

I have to disagree with you on just giving zubac more playing time. The guy avg between game 5 and game 6 over 30 minutes and he scored 5 points for game 5 and 2 points for game 6. I just don't know if he got the it factor to be a dominant center.

zubac played quite well in the playoffs when given extended minutes. his impact is very good and he's very cheap.

the team doesn't need a dominant center. it just needs someone who can defend and screen well, which is the kind of player zubac is. we don't need stars at every position. we just need capable players.

While I can agree with certain spurts he did pretty good, but this guy can't play well against good to elite big men. He got destroyed by kristaps porziņģis in the Dallas series. Also, he got destroyed against the Dallas big men and denver big men.

He doesn't have to do 40 to 50 points a game but 15 to 20 points a game is a great average. I am thinking that it we want to utilize his skills, send him to where he can work with development expert or someone like the Dream or something like that.

Funny how the talk early-on was how the Clippers "stole" Zubac away from the Lakers....

Maybe they knew sumthin' after all...

Zubac is an already pretty good and improving center on a cheap contract. I’d really like to see Ibaka as the backup center, he can protect the rim much better than Harrell and gives us a new dimension with pick and pop.

We don’t win the Dallas series without Zubac because beside Kawhi and some inconsistency with Morris who else plays well? Zubac and Kawhi won that series and should of won the Dallas series on impact but the bench was so bad.

You don’t penalize the starting center who had a breakout run because his backup played one of the worse series in playoff history. He had two bad games but no one picked up the slack

I think Ibaka could definitely help, although I've had a poor opinion of him ever since his run ins with Blake Griffin.

I know that Marc Gasol is long in the tooth and is considering heading back to Spain, but he might be a better option than Ibaka in that he is a bigger body and is probably better at defending a guy like Jokic. He is also a very good passing big. I think the Clippers should try to sign Gasol.

I’m intrigued by Gasol too as he’s still a very good post defender and his shooting/passing at the top of the key could really help our offense. But man, he looked pretty bad against Boston.

Yes- I'm worried that he would end up like Paul Pierce. Totally over the hill by the time the Clippers get him
