Malone goes down in the playoffs because AD has more options you need to scheme away. I'm taking AD
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

This was probably a tossup back in 2018, but by this point Davis is comfortably ahead i think.

I mean current AD is shooting like Dirk/MJ from mid-range and is a destructive defensive force.
Probably the best alley oop big man in history too.
Not really a comp IMO.

Anthony Davis. The child rapist regularly underperformed in the playoffs and was easier to shut down even with an all time great PG helping. If this was a Regular Season only I would give Karl the nod.
Anthony Davis even on the Pels got his in the playoffs, he just didn't have much help.

Well I'd say this on the Jazz teams I am not sure AD could have gone thru Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler and then Robinson/Duncan and then Shaq/Kobe/Jones/Van Exel as the man.

Im not even sure he's better than Giannis. Never mind prime Blake or Dwight and none of them are even the best(Shaq).

I can only give you Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler even though you could they were washed at that point and never a good fit together.
That was an 18 year old, rookie Kobe Karl Malone beat....
Also a rookie Tim Duncan who was already really good though the roster outside of the twin towers was mediocre and the Spurs were nowhere near the best team that season.
Not like Malone was playing with bums he can Stockton + Hornacek.
Very misleading take, none of these were "great teams". Very good sure but thats all. And AD if he had Stockton setting him up would do fine.

He's the GOAT lob finisher. Blake, Dwight, and Shaq are more powerful and flashy but AD is so long and skilled he can catch lobs that are impossible to reach and defend.
AD's dexterity being able to use either hand coupled up with his elite body control mid-air makes him the best lob-finisher ever imo.

Is this a joke thread? Weren't people just blowing a fuse over Kawhi being rated highly All-Time? But then I look away for a second and now AD is better than Karl Malone? Lakers fans man.

Malone is ranked highly for his absurd longevity. He had a great Mvp level peak but hardly infallible specially considering how much better Ad is in the playoffs

This is AD's first real play-off run and he's the second option, let's pump the brakes.

Re: Anthony Davis vs Peak Karl Malone
Despite huge hit on efficiency, Malone usually led very strong offensive teams in postseason. He's much better creator than Davis, his passing skills were a real weapon.
On the other hand, Davis is better off-ball and with good playmaker, it's easier to find him an easy look. Davis is also better defensively and I say this as a huge fan of Malone's defense.
Let's wait for the rest of the playoffs. People were quick at calling Kawhi top 10 peak player ever and now they say he's not even top 5 in the league.

He had 9 playoff games in his last go and was dominant. A historic upset sweep against a really good Blazers team as the 6th seed (Blazers made Wcf the next season and even beat the Nuggets too). Took a game from the Kd Warriors too nearly 2
Ad is the 2nd best player overall on La but hes the best scorer on the team and the defensive anchor. Hes at worst a top 3 player this season. He compares very favorable to any version of Karl if not flatout better

Karl Malone was also the best scorer on his team and the defensive anchor but he also was a 2 time MVP and clear leading man of his team.
AD made the play-offs for the first time in his 3rd year and got swept in the first round. Misses the play-offs the next two years before finally winning his first play-off series in his career. Now AD is playing next to the best player in the league for a team that is heavily favored to win the title and that puts him ahead of a guy with 2 MVPs and nearly 200 play-off games?

You seem to be thinking this is a career ranking.......its asking peak. Current Ad vs the best season of Karl. Not sure what relevance Karl playing 200 playoff games has here

Re: Anthony Davis vs Peak Karl Malone
If we want to use 2018 for Davis as a credible sample of size, then in 1988 Malone at the same age upset very promising Portland team (while averaging 32/12/2) and then he took the champions to 7 games (while averaging 29/12/1). In game 7 he posted 31/15/4 on 62 TS% but unfortunately, Malone and Stockton had no help in that game.

Tbf 2018 davis was still pretty bad as a passer and his postgame was a bit worse, and the team around hin was bad jn the sense that it didnt make sense and hindered his strengths more than helped it, which against a team d like the warriors is really hard since its easier to scheme against that now

Because AD played well over a very small sample size, while Karl Malone played well over a much bigger sample size. Judging AD based on a statistically dominant but forgettable 2nd round exit, while Karl Malone has 2 decades of play-off runs (including 2 finals) feels disingenuous and in any case way too soon.

1988 Utah wasn't built well either. Sure, he had Stockton who was magnificent passer and floor general but outside of him this team was very bad offensively. They didn't have Griffith or Tripucka in playoffs and as much as I love Big Mark, Eaton was horrible offensive player. Thurl Bailey was thier only relevant offensive player in playoffs and he was limited to transition baskets and catch and shoot midranges. To his credit, Hansen played well in Lakers series but come on - this cast wasn't good at all.
