Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
Usman is just too big for Colby, in their first fight it looked like different weight division. Some guys can cut serious weight and still be elite.
Be curious, Not judgmental

170 easy. He'd run into freaks like Yoel/Costa at 185, at 170 he's got GOAT potential.
love Yoel but hes pretty much done
If they do Maia vs him and he sleeps Maia. It’s likely he will get a top 5 guy with a full camp. No top guys taking that fight on short notice.

Leon Edwards/Chimaev? No need to watch Maia.

I think people are underestimating Maia. In his last 8 he’s 4-4, but the four losses are against Burns, Usman, Covington and Woodley. That’s 3 champions (counting Colby’s interim reign) and the current #1 contender. Two of his wins were vs Masvidal and Askren. He’s the current #7 guy and I don’t think it’s a given that Khamzat runs through him, impressive as he’s been.
On another note, what does everyone think about Michael Chandler ? Overrated ? They’re talking about potentially throwing him in there with Khabib or Gaethje, and idk about that.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
Problem is Maia basically would be retired by now but wants his last fight to be in front of a crowd apparently? It never bodes well when a guy who is halfway out the door fights a young hungry lion...see Woodley's last few fights.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
Saw someone mention Chimaev vs Wonderboy today. Any reason that couldn't happen? With Woodley and Masvidal busy, I feel like Colby should fight Edwards. Then winners of Burns/Woodley and Colby/Leon can fight.
Let Masvidal/Diaz winner fight Conor or Brock Lesnar or Floyd Mayweather or something.

I'm a massive Maia fan, Maia has zero paths to beating this monster. He's not taking him down, I have serious doubts he's going to sweep him and he sure as hell isn't going to outstrike him. It's going to be damage on a legend's body that has taken a beating in his recent losses.
Edwards is the move.

I don't see him beating Gaethje and he's got nothing for Khabib. He hasn't really beaten anybody good in quite some time if you don't count washed up Henderson so it's hard to say what his current form is. But outside the top 5 or so he can probably compete.

No one knew who Chimaev was 2 months ago and now everyone wants him to fight top 10 guys at 170 and 185.
Even if he's capable (which no one knows), I don't know why there's such a rush to find out. I rather see him build the hype more against a mid level fighter or two before such a jump in competition.

I don't think the size difference is that big. Same height, Colby is just leaner. Based on the first fight, sized wasn't a factor.

Wonderboy in a 5 round fight seems pretty fair. Winner of that gets a number one contender fight. I just don’t see him making a run at 185 there’s so many killers that cut down from 200 lb plus.

DeRandamie with the submission win. Def not expected.
Holm looked really great in her 5 rounds in the main event.

And yet I'm not really interested in either one of them rematching Nunes.
And yet looking through both 135 and 145, it's hard to find a single challenger of interest.
It's hard for me to remember the last time women's MMA was in this situation. Like, even when Ronda was smashing people, there were at least a string of challengers you could see giving her potential troubles, like McMann or Tate, who could maybe use their wrestling to help neutralise Ronda's judo.
I think Julianna Peña would have been the best challenger for Nunes if she'd managed to win, but we saw how that went. Now you pretty much have to give it to some dark horse 145 fighter, or else GDR. Or else just wait for more fights to happen and hope that a ranked fighter has a dominant win or two, and you just roll with that.
I'd be all for a Cyborg rematch if it was somehow possible, except that White just doesn't want her to be champ. So yeah... awkward situation all around.

I'd ask if Valentina wants another shot at her.
