Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
Why do Bears coaches always seem to take their foot off the gas with leads that aren't that big?
I'm not that pessimistic, its hard to get ANY wins in the NFL, but this team needs to put together a complete game.

Easy quick take - The Bears were on the right side of two close games (one they should have lost, one they almost gave away) to beat two bottom 10 NFL teams to go 2-0. They still *could* be good, but these two games are far from convincing that they are, in fact, good.

Yes, definitely better to be 2-0 than 0-2, but the Packers beat the Lions by 20 today, and will likely beat us that way, too. With Trubisky, it seems like it's always the same story: "He did some good things today, there were a few bright spots, he might be close to putting it all together, he looked really good on that one drive". But never a full game of even average NFL quarterbacking.
If he looks this bad again next week and they lose, they need to go with Foles.

Man, this is not a good football team. They may be 2-0, but they have so many glaring weaknesses right now on both sides of the ball.
How in the world do you only score 17 points to a New York Giants team missing their two best offensive weapons? They got shut out in the 2nd half, and Daniel Jones was practically begging them to end the game by halftime! Chuck Pagano can't seem to dial up enough consistent pressure to keep quarterbacks from finding his targets. Robert Quinn certainly made things a lot easier, but he didn't play enough.
Offensively, about the only thing I like right now is the way they are running the football. It didn't look great until their last drive, but they stuck with it and kept the defense honest. Trubisky looked awful in the 2nd half, and lead them to 0 points in the final 2 quarters. I know they won't do it, because they won, but I'd still really like to see Nick Foles in week 3.
Talk about a fortunate schedule, nobody the Bears have played or will be playing next week have won a game yet. Falcons just blew a massive lead against Dallas, but they still look like the best team they'll play on paper. It'll be a tougher test than either the Lions or Giants.

2-0
Running game looks good, Mitch looked better overall today, Quinn played and made a difference.
Keep stacking wins.

The Packers put up 42 on the Lions today. The Bears leave points on the field and that’s the bottom line between good and not good enough.

Yep. It's early, but the 2-0 result is primarily good in the fact that 2-0 is an optimal start towards the necessary 10ish wins needed to qualify for the playoffs. But as I alluded to, these two wins aren't particularly reassuring as an on the field product beyond their tally's to the win column.

If this list is accurate:
https://overthecap.com/position/running-back/
It makes Cohen the 14th highest paid running back by average salary in the league. That seems like an awful lot for a guy who's a change of pace back that had 669 total yards last season and hasn't been used a whole lot this season. Hard for me to figure out what we're doing there. It's not a whole ton of money in the grand scheme of things, but just doesn't seem like money well spent if that link is accurate.

I think Mitch has looked good both days really, especially relative to my expectations which weren't high. He's not getting nearly enough help from his receivers and getting too many dropped passes. Both of his interceptions could have easily been receptions by his guy. He is trying to fit the ball into tight spots, but he's generally put it in places his guy could make a play, and the Bears receivers simply have to make more plays for him IMO.
Defense still hasn't come together IMO, the pass rush looks pretty timid relative to what I would expect our talent to be, but you have to assume that will improve as time goes on.
We've beaten two bad teams, and we probably aren't great, but at the same time, we're 2-0 and the team has room to play better and gel. I'd rather be 2-0 against two bad teams than 1-1 or 0-2 against stronger opponents.

Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
I'm not convinced they are any good, but it was nice to see another win.
I was lucky enough to watch the game today with a few old friends. A tv was setup on a deck, and 5 long term friends got together to watch the game today. We have all known each other for at least 15 to 30 years. The house was off limits per spouse orders, so we had to walk behind a bush in the backyard to pee.
Just a bunch of 40 to 50 year old guys sitting on a deck watching the game together.

It's also year 3 of the Trubisky/Nagy offense, and they look worse than ever.

Sounds like a good time. Nothing beats spending time with old friends. And I think more and more people are finding out just how convenient some well placed bushes can be.

2-0 is 2-0 but we can see whats coming. Tribs is food once this schedule gets a bit tougher. 7-9 season is about right.

Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
The one bright spot is that the Bears don't have any serious injuries yet. Watching the 49'ers out here today, they lost Nick Bosa to a probably ACL tear, on the very next play lost Solomon Thomas, another starter on the D line, also to a knee injury. Then Jimmy Garropollo didn't play the second half with a high ankle sprain, and their star runner, Rahim Mostert, also left with a knee injury.
They all complained about how sticky the new turf was at Met Life Stadium. Last week, a Steeler blew out his knee on that turf, and the Jets also lost a player to a leg injury today in the first half.
The Niners will be severely decimated if these injures turn out to be significant. Bosa is likely their best defender, and Garropollo and Mostert will now join Kittle on the injured list.

Concerning injuries, I was really worried that the David Montgomery fall was going to be worse than it was. That fall he took was terrifying. (Not just for the Bears season, but more so for his health as a person), It was really good to see him come back from that.

That does seem like a waste, for a guy who not even the every down back. They should look at what the NE Patriots do at RB- just pick up a new guy every 2-3 years, never pay a lot of one.

Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
Cohen is the Bears version of Nate Robinson, a little guy with a lions heart. Despite all odds he has found a way to be successful in a league where others have physical advantages. I find it easy to root for a guy with those qualities.
The team needs to find ways to use his skill set more, two years ago he was a huge spark in that seasons success. If you give him just a bit of space to work and avoid the initial contact, the guy is dangerous with the right called plays.
