They better be giving us #5 at the minimum, which is something I’d strongly consider if I’m a believer in the talent in this draft. IE, you get Hayes at 5, Nesmith at 8, Bane ( ) at 27.

I assume he’s linked to us b/c a lot of the current writers who write these type of pieces were kids when the Knicks did this type of dumb **** under Zeke, so they think it’s the same old same old.

Get me Deni and Nesmith and I’ll live with Bane at 27.

I like Deni too. Everybody is downplaying this draft so much, I hope we’re looking to add more picks in the lottery for what should be a lower price than usual.

1. Time to trade Randle. It's a weak draft, but still some decent players who could become stars. Package Randle + Smith +8th pick to Charlotte for Terry Rozier and the 3rd pick in the draft. The salary's closely match-up. Rozier becomes the new starting guard and forms a backcourt with Rj Barrett.

2. Draft Obi Toppin. He would't be your typical rookie. He;s 22 years old, has great energy and can stretch the D from 3. Also he's the NCAA player of the year. Why this guy isn't being talked about more as a top 3 pick is beyond me.

3. Sign Marc Gasol to a veteran's minimum. He's not what he used to be, but he still can stretch the D with his 3, and he could be a great mentor to Mitchell Robinson. He has a championship and has been an all-star. This is mainly a character move. Let Portis walk (club option)

4. 27th pick: Draft Elijah Hughes. Great shooter, great athleticism, and he played at Syracuse. Knows how to mix it up between playing man and zone.

5. Sign Danilo Gallinari. Bring him back. Pair him in the front court with Mitchell Robinson.

6. Trade Taj Gibson+ Elfrid Payton to Sacramento for Cory Joseph and Nemanja Bejilica. Sacramento needs backup PG to Fox, and could use a big to backup Bagely.

Now your team looks is a mixture of character, veterans, and still holding your young core together while adapting to the NBA of today. You also keep most of your cap flexibility

Robinson/Gasol
Gallinari/Bejilica
Toppin/Knox/Hughes
Barrett/Ellington/Bullock
Rozier/Joseph/Frank N.

this is one of the worst offseasons I can imagine.

You guys are the Knicks. You can't be any worse. This team, in the East, would have a chance to make the playoffs next year. You need higher character guys, like Gasol and Joseph who have championship experience. Chicago and Cleveland are raving about Toppin; especially in a draft that isn;t so clear cut on top end talent.

1. charlotte doesn't make that trade
2. you draft toppin to play out of position ? he is not a 3 and d guy like you wrote.
3. gasol doesn't sign for the vet min. and even if he does... no way he comes to non contender for that money.
4. don't mind
5. uffff. the now 32 year old, injury prone gallo would be such a classic knicks move. he signs for 18-20 million a year and plays 40 games.
6. Sac doesn't do this

sorry, no offence, but this is just bad.

Yeah. If anything Toppin's better fit might be a small ball C so he doesn't have to go chasing around and guarding the more perimeter centric outside shooting PF's dotting the NBA landscape nowadays. He's definitely not a 3 and if he actually was a 3 and D (at 6'9"-6'10") he'd be the 1st pick in the draft.

but drafting a player and play him at a "smaller" position is the most knicksish thing of the last 10 years. so yeah, It can happen.

My feelings about Free Agency:

1) I am not very hopeful that we can get Grant, Bertans, Morris or Joe Harris. At least by a fair value (under 18M). I think the players would rather play for their current teams for the around the same money. They are adapted to the system, to the mates, to the city. And they can compete on their current teams. I think their Front Offices want them back too and they will pay them accordingly.
Grant got starter status in these games and Milsap looks very washed. I think Denver will make Grant re-sign top priority.
I heard Nets is willing to pay luxury to keep Joe Harris. They have a narrow window with Durant and Irving healthy. Its not make sense to save money now.
Bertans is also important to the Wizards.
Marcus should prefer competing for a ring than playing for us. Also, if the team have to choose between Harrel and Marcus to invest money, they would rather invest in the second.

2) I do think we have a shot to sign Fred 85-90/4. I dont think the Raptors are comfortable to offer a big long term deal to Fred. They view themselves as a perennial contender. If they offer the 85/4, they would commit 65M+ in a Siakam/Fred/OG core, they would have little cap to complete the team. Especially if they miss Giannis.

3) I dont know about Wood. Pistons are pretty bad right now. Detroit is not a great city (according to NBA players). If the Knicks were willing to offer him 60/4, he could come. New York is a better city. Also, bigs with good shooting skills use to prefer playing as PF and he would play a lot in that position on the Knicks because of Mitch.

4) Gallo could be an option. After Donovan departure, I don't see a high investment to keep the vets to another run in OKC. Considering a few teams have cap space, he could come back here. Sign and trade to a contender is another very possible destination like Miami or Portland.

5) I think we have a shot in Malik. Especially if Edwards is the Wolves choice. Wolves will not pay 15M+ for a probable reserve.

6) Bogdan could be a target too. After the changes FO in Kings, it can be difficult to justify the signing for a equally expensive second SG.

From what I saw, he's your next Blake Griffin: a player you won't win with.

Why would they trade down for Julius Randle and DSJ when Rozier was actually somewhat efficient for them?

51% EFG / 55% TS

He’d actually be the best guard we have

Devonte Graham is the reason. Rozier has been on the trade block since the all-star break because of his play. Rozier is good, if he's in the right system (ala Boston). He just needs to be the main guard (ball handler).

If such a player is your main ball handler, you'll likely win... the lottery.

I know they weren’t playing for anything, but still, that’s pretty impressive. He’s on a 2 way & we could probably steal him away on the cheap.

I’d be impressed if he was even on their radar as a potential signing.

I still think the Knicks should just absorb Al Horford, for the #21 pick, then package #21, #27, and that Mavs 2023 top 10 protected pick for Suns pick #10 and Oubre in this draft. Then throw the 24 Mil left in money at FVV, finally sign Dotson with the MMLE.

Draft those two FSU studs Vassell and Patrick Williams and give Thibs a defensive first team to develop.

Sorry, Horford is one of the worst contracts in the NBA. We'd have to get a lot more than the 21 in a weak draft to absorb that.

#21 is too little to absorb a 81/3 contract of a washed 34 years old Al. Besides we have little use of him. We are not contending right now. And if we get better with time, he will get worse with aging. We already have a starter Center. And he looks slow to play PF anymore. And he is hooting only ok for long-range.

Forget the pick, ask for Thybulle, I'd happily take Horford for Mattise. Al's contract isn't as bad for a team in our position, the last year isn't fully guaranteed, it is a terrible contract for the Sixers or any team trying to compete.

Charlotte will not trade down to get Randle and Dennis.

Obi is a bad choice for #8. It's an awful choice for #3. And he is a PF (maybe lowball center).

Gasol is not taking the minimum to play for us. He might come back to Europe.

Hughes is a reach at #27.

Its a bad deal to take 10M Taj team option. Kings need cap relief. I would not be surprised if they just unload Bjelica for free. I would only take Cory Salary for a pick. And his style is quite similar to Frank.

If Obi Toppin was to fall to the Knicks at 8 ( which he won't because GM's know he's a top 3-5 talent), only the Knicks would not pick him. This guy is way more refined than Pascal Siakim was at the same stage of development, and might even be a better shooter right now. Pairing this guy with Rj Barrett, could be a dynamic combination for years to come. And this whole argument about playing 3 or 4...the NBA is essentially a position-less league. He's a high flyer, great motor, shoots 40% from 3, plus averages a steal and a block a game. If for some unforseen reason he's available at 8 and the Knicks don't pick him.....WOW. You really are cursed. SAS would lead a box-office rant the next day on First Take lol
