There's a strong correlation. Stronger with HCA.

Can we narrow it down? How strong is the correlation for Bud as a coach? He’s had the best record in the East three times, best in the NBA twice. He has made “?” NBA finals?

Essentially they only got 1 high draft picked and it flopped. That fluke 41 win year hurt as well, could've used one more top 5 pick and hopefully that one would've panned out. The next draft was KAT, Zinger, Russel, okafor. But, even just 4 picks in front of us was Devin Booker.

Thon was a top 10 pick (and also flopped). We've had plenty of chances to draft good players, including some cases like John Collins where he just fell in our lap and we just refused to accept the gift. The overall drafting of this franchise since we got Giannis is laughably bad.

I’m still pissed we didn’t take Collins that was a no brained pick

Guys don’t get bogged down in first round picks.

We’ve been incredibly bad at it outside of Giannis. Just self flagellation at this point.

The weight was definitely an issue but I think the much larger issue was that he sucked at basketball.

I think he could have potentially helped us if he knew how to physically catch or grab a ball but unfortunately he had feet for hands.

Still pretty strong! 2 EC Finals in those 3 years. Compare to performance of other seeds.

2 appearances by 1 seed.
2 by a 2 seed.
1 by a 3 seed.
1 by a 5 seed.
None for 4 or 6-8.

Very few observations but it's certainly not contrary evidence.

Thon is a FA this year. If I had to guess he won't get an NBA guaranteed contract, I'd probably be confident enough to bet on it. But the NBA is crazy and some guys get tons of chances so who knows.

I think his best bet is to re enroll in HS with a new name and be 17 again, start it all over.

I have no idea how anyone can hold up that 2015 Hawks team as any sort of slight on Bud's resume. That roster had zero business winning anything more than 45-games, much less 60 and a round away from the NBA Finals.

What do we think of Buddy Hield?

Sam Amick implies he'd be pretty cheap if the Kings decide to bail on him.

Alternatively if Bogdan does want out maybe the Bucks can pull a reverse-Brogdon and get the Kings on board a magnanimous sign and trade to a preferable destination.

Amick: “You’ve got the Buddy Hield situation. He does not see himself as a sixth man. He’s not happy as a sixth man. That problem is not going away, and you gave him starter money. Do you test the market on Buddy? Can you get anything back?”

“Bogdan Bogdanovic is a restricted free agent, and I guarantee you that Bogdan is looking at this situation now and just simply deciding, ‘Am I really buying into this?’ You can’t really blame him if he’s somewhat skeptical just because of all of the turmoil and the change.”

I guess the same could be said of our current roster. It’s Giannis (who is amazing, but with well known deficiencies), Khris, and then a bunch of Cast off misfit toys.

Maybe the talent issue is the real problem and Bud can coach em up for the regular season before the cream separates in the playoffs.

His contract is declining which makes him harder to match. He wouldn't be an awful get but more in the lines of letting him guard PGs while the offense still runs through Giannis. Not sure we want that.

The only non-CP3 trade that I have any interest in at this point, would be something around Hill for Reddick.

Accurate, still a strong correlation between regular season wins and postseason wins.

Those are two guys who'd fit the needs on this team. Seems logical to kick the tires and see if anything works

^^ Only the Paul trade makes sense in terms of moving the needle come playoff time.

That's key to mid's point, though: the idea that a "45 win team" winning 60 games is meaningless come playoff time. My argument is that 45 win teams don't typically make the conference finals. The regular season is different from the postseason but if it was the night and day difference I've heard on this board and from like Bob Myers, our playoff disappointments would be even more profound. That Atlanta team literally beat a 46 win team in the 2nd round.

Fact is we were not playing our best ball at the end of the *regular season* either year (this year in particular), and we fell short of expectations (this year in particular). Last year I remember looking at all the month by month metrics and while we were dominant much of the year, in the last couple months we were just ordinary Very Good. Like, arguably but not clearly the best team. Meanwhile Toronto was whipping asses post Gasol trade. It carries over.
