Congrats to Billy Donovan.

A great hire for a young team with so many problems. Billy was The Target all along. AK, Marc Eversley, and Billy Donovan alliance has a lot of appeal for free agents. We never had that before. We usually get washed up, or last resort, free agents.

Now we have a good chance at getting free agents. And their friends. In their primes.

Wow!

I was shocked to see the news. Billy Donovan was the best coach on the market and thought he'd go to Philly.

This is a great get for The Chicago Bulls.

Congrats!

Wow! Just wow. Great and unexpected hire by the Bulls. We finally got a real winning coach.
AK continues to surprise me with his decisions in a good way.

I don't know a ton about him but I soooooo wanted a guy with positive experience and he's probably the best available with that criteria. I'm pumped!!!!

This is a great hire

We got the coach a lot of much better teams were high on getting. We finally landed the big fish! On the coaching level at least lol

Imo this situation is ideal for him. Young talent so he don't have to deal with vet egos.

Now all we need is a great draft and I'm fully excited

I'm happy with this. He's a proven coach and is respected around the league.

This team needs a legit proven coach in place for a team that is young and needs to be developed, and I'm sure that is what AK thinks also.

Wow! This came out of nowhere. Skiles is the only other coach we've hired since Stan Albeck in 1986 that had prior head coaching experience, so this feels like a significant culture shift for the franchise.

Donovan is a good coach and honestly that's what we need at this point in our rebuild. He got a ton out of a team that no one thought would compete, and our roster overall is probably more talented. His success has also come in the deeper WC. I'm all for this hire.

As a side note, this slightly increases the odds of Joakim Noah coming back home to finish out his career.

I think Philly fans are breathing a sigh of relief. He isn't the guy for a contender.

I also feel like OKC needed to move on from him.

Donovan moved on from OKC.
OKC tried to low-ball him on a short-contract and he said thanks, but no thanks, I'm outta here.

Exactly. 3rd in coach of the year this year. I know for coaches it doesnt mean a ton but at least someone out there thought he was doing an exceptional job.

OKC should be been dog **** this past season. Even with CP3 that roster should not have had a winning season on paper.

I’m just impressed we got him. He probably had a lot of options, and good ones

True but I also think he wants to win with these young guys. I’m sure he didn’t come here to tank or else he would of stayed in OKC where apparently they will be doing that. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bulls start making win now moves, add some vets.

Does not affect the Lux Tax.

In fact, it's amazing that the Bulls haven't been doing this for years.

If you want wins, but you don't want to pay the Lux Tax, then hire the best FO and HC that you can get.

The playoffs revenue more than makes up for their difference in salaries over people that are incompetent.

It's just simple logic.

Incredible, I wanted a coach with some years of experience but this was unexpected. Donovan coached a team everyone assumed was going to tank to the equivalent of a 50 win full season.

Remember when this is how we started all this.

WIndhorst:
The one thing with the Bulls … I know that they say they are going to change, but to me, the Bulls always operate with fiscal responsibility. They do not operate like a big market team. And we’re going into a year, next year, where I believe if not every team, virtually every team will operate in the red, including the Bulls.

The Bulls will, very likely, after decades of being heavily profitable will be operating in the red next year. And you know part of this arithmetic is do you want to hire another coach and pay Jim Boylen off. And I know you can you can swear to me it doesn’t matter but the Bulls history tells me that’s a factor here. And Jim Boylen, part of the reason he may get another year is because they don’t want to pay two coaches next year.

Cowley:
Financial concerns likely will keep Jim Boylen as Bulls’ coach

The mood was very different months ago, when the new front office seemed poised to make a coaching change in the wake of negative feedback from players. But with real concerns about financial losses next season, there is growing sentiment that Boylen will be back.

Somebody who could get a head coaching job elsewhere in the NBA has agreed to work for the Bulls. Wow. I am re-reading that sentence and still having trouble believing it.

Personally, I am glad we finally got a head coach with head coaching experience after so long without one. I wouldn't have mind if we instead went for a established assistant coach with experience in the vein of Udoka or Unseld.

The last play of Game 7 against the Rockets left a bad taste in my for Billy Donovan but on paper he seems to be better than Hoiberg and Boylen. But it's interesting to see him coming here after having better teams on the table like Philly or Houston. Could mean that we paid the most or we are actually gonna be competing hard next season.
AKME? More like MEAK with how they're afraid to make a move to push us in one direction.

I'm sure this def was a part of why he signed. Ak probably have some deals in place that will go down on draft night or in free agency and donovan sees a grear young core being assembled.

I don't know about this hire. But I'll give AK the benefit of the doubt because he's not Gar......

That was a bad perception. He had Durant and Westbrook for 1 year. After that it was a hodge podge roster of poor fits and he still had winning seasons.

He had Paul George for two season after Durant left so there were good players on his roster. But I didn't watch him very close (or OKC) so I'll go when what you're saying.

It also helps make me more optimistic about the hiring.

The Westbrook and PG13 fit was terrible. It was Westbrook, PG13 and Melo with not much else. Once Melo was gone they got Schroder and he helped but the roster balance as a whole was awful due to the contracts of Westbrook and George.

It would be a dream if we got Jo back. That would be perfect for us. Even if his role is another coach, to be a mentor for Wendell and Gafford.
