Somebody who could get a head coaching job elsewhere in the NBA has agreed to work for the Bulls. Wow. I am re-reading that sentence and still having trouble believing it.

I can't wait for his introductory press conference/zoom call to happen where he mentions wanting to coach Zach as a main reason for coming here and posters go nuts

I'm happy with this. He's a proven coach and is respected around the league.

This team needs a legit proven coach in place for a team that is young and needs to be developed, and I'm sure that is what AK thinks also.

This helps a lot in free agency as now we have a coach with some stripes who probably will have prior relationships with a lot of the stars in the league as he might even been in on some of the recruiting of some of them to Florida. That bolds very well for us as he is sitting in these guys faces in recruiting them here and not the Muppets gar and pax.

The fact that this new regime could land Billy Donovan really gives me hope that we can become a free-agent destination, especially if we wipe away the stink of the old regime. We're a legitimate franchise again.

I was on the unseld train more than anyone else, but partly because i thought coaches like donovan weren’t really an option since we are in a rebuild, and that’s not even taking into account the bulls historical stinginess. I was higher on more assistant coaches than head coaches mostly because i wasn’t a fan of atkinson, though i’m not saying he would have been a bad choice. I just felt that he wouldn’t be a very exciting hire considering his limited team success, although i’m aware up until recently his team as a whole wasn’t very good.

As far as head coaches i wanted mcmillan, but he took himself out of this year’s coaching races when he said he was taking a year off, but donovan is an exciting hire. Definitely good at player development and getting the best out of his players like mcmillan, his only problem was bad timing. He was hired by okc and a year later durant left, he only had one year of paul george, westbrook is a talented but incredibly flawed player and the thunder didn’t have a lot of depth during his tenure if i remember correctly. It seemed like he underachieved because he had a former mvp, but i felt like he overachieved when looking at the thunder’s roster as a whole over the last few years.

Lastly, please bring back joakim noah as a veteran presence, seeing him in anything but a bulls jersey is a travesty.

Zach better get his act together. Very good player but he always acted up with Boylen, now that sht won’t fly anymore. They now have a coach who needs to be respected.

Wow! This came out of nowhere. Skiles is the only other coach we've hired since Stan Albeck in 1986 that had prior head coaching experience, so this feels like a significant culture shift for the franchise.

Donovan is a good coach and honestly that's what we need at this point in our rebuild. He got a ton out of a team that no one thought would compete, and our roster overall is probably more talented. His success has also come in the deeper WC. I'm all for this hire.

As a side note, this slightly increases the odds of Joakim Noah coming back home to finish out his career.

Why? Billy is known for developing and building programs, like at UF. I am sure that is more the appeal here.

I suggested it in a different thread, but I said I was open to trading for Chris Paul (something like Felicio, Young, Sato, and a heavily protected future 1st) to help jump-start our rebuild. I'm even more open to that now.

Crazy that a few months ago it looked like a real possibility that Boylen would still be here lol.
