Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
He's just 22 and he's already the best player in a contender team.
I've no doubts he will become a top 10 player, at least.

Last night:
28 points (all second half) 9 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks.
for the playoffs this year
25.5 points, 10 boards, 4.5assists, 1 steal, 1.5 blocks and shooting 45% and 39%
the only, and I mean ONLY thing that we can talk about is the turnovers, averaging 3 per game and 6 last night. He needs to fix that up, but he will. I have full confidence that he will learn that part of the game. Kid is only 22 years old.
Those numbers are foolishly good.
Lebron at 22
25points, 8rebounds, 8 assists, 1.5 steals, 1 block and shooting 41% and 28% with 3.5 turnovers.
Ironically this post is you saying he's great but he's not ready yet lol
Not really? He is ready as evidenced by his production, but he can also be better,
But you mention he is too turnover prone, highlighting the 6 he had yesterday. Turnover issues are a young player (and Harden and Russ) problem that gets better with time. I.e. Tatum is great but he isn't fully ready yet because things like careless turnovers hold him back from leading his team all the way

I mean even if he was a top 10 player Boston isnt winning anything. He would have to be at least this yrs Doncic to do a 1 man carry job but his handle sucks I dont think he can be that good and hes still stiff not fluid.
My problem with Tatum is he gets stuck like Butler in that top 20 player range he never becomes a MVP candidate IT was in for Boston. Being able to make that next step is what makes him into a superstar but he is far from there and no guarantees.
If he doesnt make that step, he is easily disposable just like Butler when Chi/Philly/Min didnt care much of him. You might as well just rebuild and get a Young/Doncic who can carry the entire franchise with literal scrubs. I think you can find that guy in 21/22.
He is pretty much a prime PG 13/Butler caliber player thats really good superstar impact wise but not a number 1 option to totally rely on. Definitely a level below Harden/Leonard. Brown needs to be close to PG 13 level to what Leonard is now. Basically he needs to be the robin and even then your ceiling is the LAC rn and need multiple 6moy type players ready to score 20 any time.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

The Celtics need to trade Tatum for superstars like Zach Lavine, Wendell Carter Jr, and Lauri Markannen. Otherwise they’re doomed to fail.

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
I would say that this (30/10 on an elimination game) should be enough to put this question to bed. But of course, if he has an 0/4 start to another playoff game, we will have another thread about how overrated he is and how his ceiling might be a 3rd guy on a contending team...

Had the dare in the headlights look in his eyes last night. Meanwhile, 20 year old rookie was running ****.
In Game 4, he had a lousy first half, put that behind him and had a great second half. That’s what you need superstars to do. Some nights you start 0 for 7, it’s how you respond to that start.

He has 49 points in the last two second halves.

and also has a lot more years and experience playing professional basketball than Tatum.
With more years and experience, Tatum will only get better.
Pretty sure nobody expected him to be leading a team in the ECF for two seasons out of first 3 seasons he's played in the NBA so far.

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
As of right now, this is where Tatum ranks in the playoffs
3rd in points
2nd in rebounds
2nd in blocks
8th in assists
All of that while still shooting a good 57 TS%. Can this guy ever take the next step and stop being so much of a lackadaisical rebounder and defender and stop playing so much smaller than his size...

That is for the whole playoffs. Now granted these are total numbers not per game. But still impressive looking at how he is impacting so many different areas of the game.

If he works on that floater he uses once every 3-5 games and makes that apart of his game, I think that'll be the final step for him to get much better shots (assuming he becomes a knockdown floater kind of guy).
His passing is looking like the tools are already there... they just need another 82 games or so that he'll get to practice refining his reads and passing to make it a consistent threat.
That and he will get more used to breaking doubles too, he doesn't do that well enough yet.
Still some finishing touches to be had here. Then he can start challenging for MVPs if he adds these things (and if his 3 point shooting stays elite like it has been post Feb and in the bubble).

I have a feeling that Luka will join him on top of that list, or even eclipse him.

These reationary posts man lol. Like tatum has clearly figured stuff out for the most part and clearly at least outperformed expectations. 26/10/5 for your first run as a 1st option is incredible.

He's already a better scorer than both of those guys and his passing can get to Jimmy level.
He's already a top 10 player in my eyes. Next year it will become official. Jimmy wasn't easily disposable because both Minnesota and the Bulls and Philly have clearly been worse since he left lol.
