Doubt anyone predicted Yelich and Hiura would be this awful. If they were 75% of their norms this team is already in the playoffs.

Nobody would have specifically predicted that Yelich and Hiura would be awful, but it isn't a revelation that this team lacks talent on the roster. Maybe they are lining up to be buyers next off-season

Yeah, we're looking at like the 2009/2010 timeframe of the Attanasio timeline here with Braun, now Yelich.

I'm indifferent, but we've locked ourselves into an underpaid (we hope) superstar for another decade, where he will (hopefully) play like a superstar for another 4-5 years.

We have a slightly longer window on the supporting pieces this time around, but they're going to have a bit of room to spend next year, I think Attanasio will once again surprise us a bit (in a good way) but not break the bank.

I could see Braun coming back for like $2-5m more on top of his $4m buyout from the Brewers. Maybe not the best investment, but he's Attanasio's buddy.

Maybe Hader gets flipped for a different package of players.

There' s no way we are buyers in the offseason. The loss of revenue crushes a small market team like the Brewers. Getting Braun's $20 million off the books will help (there's no way the mutual option of $15 million will be picked up). Maybe we can find someone to take Cain and his 2/$35 million. Yelich's extension doesn't kick in until 2022.

Feels like Wong has annoyed me for a decade. Either gets a big hit or randomly has a soft hit that finds grass.

Be nice if the offense didn't go out with a wimper.

Just an utterly forgettable season in most respects. I do think guys like Yelich and Hiura would have turned it around over a full season, but it's not too surprising that with some of the losses they had this season - Cain and Grandal and Moose, for example - that you'd see some regression. That they are a near .500 ball club with those losses and their two best offensive players having subpar seasons is better than I would have guessed.

I'm actually weirdly encouraged by this forgettable season (which I agree, it is), mostly because of the pitching. I think Woodruff can get his mid-inning duds figured out; Burnes - prior to the final game - was outstanding, and if he's even 75% of that he'll be a great piece; and Williams is lights out.

Like I don't think we're suddenly a contender if Yelich and Hiura play like we'd expect them to next year, as there are still more offensive issues to work out, but it's better than I expected.

I was thinking the same thing. We found the best pitching staff we have had since CC Sabathia pitched every other game. The fact we were even remotely in it trotting out a bunch of hitters below the mendoza line was a miracle in itself. Get a healthy Cain back, get Yelich fixed and work with Keston on not striking out 4 times a game. Speaking of Keston, dare I say he went from unplayable defensively to just bad.

What's the playoff scenario? If we win, and the Giants lose one of their two games against the Pads, we're both 30-30. Do we get in under that scenario?
