Even before he was hurt two years ago, and after... think there's a bunch of people that didn't watch Oladipio. We need a better first option, not worse 2nd or 3rd options.

2020-2021 (or the 2021 season if the NBA season starts in Jan 2021) Oladipo is a #1 or #2 with Siakam.
2021-2022 Raps can re-up Dipo and sign Giannis if Giannis likes Siakam and Dipo as his running mates. or we can renounce Dipo and convince Giannis and another star free agent to join Siakam.

Signing and trading FVV for Oladipo makes sense, especially if Masai is going after any 2021 free agents. Who knows if Oladipo will be the same after his injury, but it's worth the risk IMO. Peak Oladipo was a true difference maker and a two-way beast. He could attack the rim, pull up from mid-range, and shoot the three, while being a complete off-ball menace on defense. Offensively, he fills a need for shot creation on the Raptors. Defensively, he can help shore up our perimeter defense even further.

Agreed.

He goes back to himself or close to it, you have a legit two way star that could actualy entice a big fish (if of course Pascal stops his Demar imression), he doesn't, he expires and no long term ramifications of it and you will likely enter a rebuild with all picks in tact and no bad long term contracts save for Pascal if he actually has regressed.

Just one note about sign and trades.. there is a BYC rule (base year compensation rule) that was added to the CBA. So if a player's new contract is expected to be higher than his previous one, the outgoing trade value for a team in the S&T will be 50% of the new contract or the value of the previous contract (whichever is greater).

So if Fred is to make $25M, then the outgoing value in a trade for the Raptors will be $12.5M. The incoming value for the team accepting the trade will be $25M. If he is to make $20M.. then it will be $10M for the Raptors, but $20M for the new team.

So can't trade Dipo for Fred straight up. $21M =/= $12.5M in a trade even though $21M == $25M in an NBA trade.

If we trade McCaw and a pick for example to a team with cap space, then that should work. We remove $16.5M ($12.5M for Fred, $4M for McCaw). And accept $21M.

Or have to make the trade bigger (include someone like Norm, etc) or add yet another team. It's also a big reason why many teams don't do S&T's. But we saw a few examples of them last season with Butler, Brogdon and Durant. Butler's was a 4 team trade. So they are not entirely out of the equation. Just have to do some extra cap jiggling to make them work.

Denver, Brooklyn, Warriors, Timberwolves, Bucks, Philly, and the Knicks will be the most aggressive imo. I don’t think Miami will deal Herro so I don’t see a good offer from them.

Probable offers:
Harris + Morris + 22 + 2021 Nuggets 1st
Levert + Prince + 19
Wiggins + 2
Culver + Okogie + 17 + 33
Bledsoe + DiVincenzo + Wilson + 24 + 2022 Bucks 1st + 2024 Bucks 1st
Richardson + Thybulle + 21
8 + 27 + 2021 Mavs 1st

I like the Brooklyn and Warriors package. Both those teams will be the most aggressive in acquiring another star and will probably be true championship contenders next season. I don’t see the Raptors getting him but, I said the same about Kawhi.

Massive overpayment for Mavs and Nuggets.

I think we need to ask ourselves how much better is Dipo than Norm if given same touches.

Is the difference in numbers worth FVV, Serge or a 1st round pick?

If Dipo regains 80% of his previous form then it is still many times better than Norm.

Every year Notm has a few good games and people anoint him as a starter. He has shown time and time again that he is inconsistent and will continue to be his entire career. He has been given many chances and its always a stretch of great games but then nothing.

I'd do it. You get a year to build a relationship with him and see if he can return to form. You also maintain flexibility going into 2021.
And I don't see it costing us too much in assets.

Powell +
S&T Fred

I think those would be the two routes that we'd likely take.

Not against taking a flyer on him if the price is low enough. But he only has one year remaining and he's looked terrible coming back from injury. I wouldn't give up much in a trade.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Dipo to the Raptors makes little sense too.

We have Lowry, FVV, Davis and Powell and at SF/PF we have only OG and PS. Why in the world would we not shore up that position instead of trading for a guy that has one year left and for us... frankly, doesn't move the needle enough here.

The only way this works is a S+T for FVV if FVV wants to play for the Pacers, as the salaries probably match and Dipo has only one year.

I don't think any package puts together makes sense for Indy. The more I think about it, I can't imagine Lowry being traded to a non-contender. Masai would simply not do him like that. The other roster players won't have the same type of value for Dipo.

Dipo to Miami makes more sense. They would probably deal Herro, a FRP and salary for Dipo in the offseason and that is pretty hard to beat. Dipo is buddies with Butler and even works out in Miami in the offseason.

Absolutely zero chance miami even mentions Herro in any trades at this point

I don't know. I feel like there is a bit of recency bias with Herro. Yes, he averaged 16 PPG in the playoffs which makes him slightly above average, and he had a couple special moments, but Dipo is a clear two-way player who was a borderline MVP player prior to getting hurt. Miami to me has two great players in Butler and Adebayo. The others are complimentary. I just can't see Herro being a day in day out 20+ player playing against starters. He's not that good.

Indiana gets rid of Dipo, trades Turner for Smart+FRPs (discussed on Celtics board). Nightmare scenario for rest of Eastern Conf.

Maybe we can package Lowry to the Sixers, Horford to the Pacers, and Dipo to the Raps? There will be young assets and fillers involved. Send Lowry home, and Raps get a head start on testing out Dipo.

I honestly feel that we will acquire every african on the trade block. Sounds stupid but its the feeling Masai gives off man. Just need him to re-sign with us so I can be confident with that swag lol.
