Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
Colts game should be winnable. I'm a little surprised the Bears are underdogs at home against a team that has also benefited from an easy schedule, and has a QB that takes forever to throw the ball. Hopefully the pass rush can be effective against the Colts.
Good news after that is the Bears play Tampa on a shorted schedule on Thursday. Doesn't give Brady's old body a lot of time to heal or prepare for that game. And they have to travel to Chicago on that shortened schedule. That game could be really weird.
Then a long break and they travel to Carolina. McCaffery might still be out for that game. HAVE to have that game after a long layoff, because the 3 games after that are tough (Rams, Saints, Titans).
I have them splitting Indy/Tampa, winning Carolina, and winning 1 out of 3 from Rams/Saints/Titans. So that puts them at 6-3, and I don't think that is incredibly unrealistic. Then you have a bunch of division games. If they take care of business against Minnesota and Detroit, they'll get 9 wins. Still have Jacksonville, and maybe they get lucky and Foles takes one from the Packers. 11 wins isn't out of the realm of realistic possibility.
But it's the NFL and the entire outlook of the season can change week to week.

Re: OT Bears 2019/20 season
Just hit me today that Cohen had just signed that big extension where we made him a top 15 running paid back in the NFL (was shocked how low the RB market was). What a great deal for him as it turns out. ~10 million in guaranteed money, and a fair chance he'd never have otherwise made above the vet minimum.
I said at the time there was no reason to give Cohen that kind of money, and after this injury it looks like we just pissed it all away, not that it was SO much, but still poor decision. Great job on Cohen getting the extension done though. Fair chance he increased his lifetime earnings by about 7 million bucks.

i think it's nice that the man who got seriously injured secured a lot of money before a freak accident cut his lifetime earning potential to a fraction of what it once was

The moment Foles came in the game, Cohen gets a 20 yard run & catch. Who knows what he or any of the guys would have looked like without Mitch handcuffing them.

I mean, it's nice for him. The Bears and his own best interests somewhat diverge, especially in a hard salary cap situation. I agree with Doug, he seems overpaid in the first place.

It's great for Cohen. I'm sure he feels very glad that he signed that deal. I'm sure it is only a small consolation towards his injury, but man I can't imagine how devastated he'd have been to have held out, not got the deal done, and then gotten hurt.

it was a dump off pass behind the line of scrimmage when nobody was open downfield
cohen was a 4th round pick who just signed a comparatively big contract based on his play with trubisky. would he have performed better with a better QB? maybe. but i seriously doubt it's a night and day scenario

How do you feel about the Foles trade and the Jimmy Graham signing now?

Graham is exceeding expectations but anything other thanCam Newton being our qb upsets me.
Also have I missed something about Kmet. Really no play time

There was a reason why Cam will available that late. I'm not losing sleep over the Bears not signing Newton.

first of all, judging the foles and graham moves based on a quarter and a half and three games, respectively, is foolhardy
secondly, the bears, with limited cap space, gave graham 2 year/$16 mil and used a 2nd round pick on kmet. graham has 103 receiving yards and 3 TDs (an overrated and highly variable stat) through 3 games. nothing to write home about (surely we could've gotten similar production to date for less money from any number of TEs). meanwhile, kmet has 12 yards receiving. there is absolutely no reason to budge as of yet on any negative opinion expressed about use of resources on tight ends over the offseason. just because the TE situation looks more promising than last season doesn't mean the cost of the upgrade was worthwhile. it's a very low bar

That is the really sad part- if Foles can stretch the field more, Cohen would have a lot more room to operate underneath and make some big plays.

Me either. The Pats aren't asking him to do a lot. They have a great defense, and a ball control offense built around the ground game. Newton is fine for that. He would be terrible fit for Nagy- he's not accurate and tends to throw picks.

Still think Graham was a mistake, but its nice that he's had one good game after two disasters to start off the season. Hopefully with Foles in there, he simply plays better, but he had numerous misses on big plays in the first two games that I would expect a TE at his salary to make.
I still would rather have had Cam Newton at half the cost and not given up a 4th rounder, but I certainly feel better about it now then when he couldn't beat out Trubisky in camp. I'm hopeful that Foles proves me wrong.

Do you guys think they even washed Aaron Rodgers uniform after that Saints game Sunday night?
and I don't gamble - but does the thought of the 0-3 ATL Falcons going into Green Bay next Monday night and the Packers giving 7 1/2 points seem like EASY MONEY?

He threw for nearly 400 yards against the seahawks. He doesn't just do ball control. NE is just very system oriented and they will take what they can get. He's not the cam newton show but he's still damn good and I'd take him over foles in a heartbeat. Seeing him adapt to a system that changes to the opponents weakness cements that.

No, he can wing it around. It's just that he's not that accurate when he does so, and he throws some picks. And Belichek will only have him do what he needs to do to win, and with the Pats defense, that's often going to be just a ground attack, with some short passes thrown in. I don't think Cam can be successful if he's asked to throw for 300 yards every week.

Pace's inability to recognize competent tight end talent and his subsequent overcompensation to address it limits the Bears' roster flexibility. He had to pay for Graham because he missed out on Shaheen. But then he drafts Kmet in the second round which was a reach considering Kmet's talent and other obvious talent on the board.
Most feel good about Kmet's floor but his ceiling isn't high which I'd argue you shouldn't look for in a Rd2 player. There were multiple tight ends on the board with comparable talent who could have been picked in the later rounds. So the Bears missed out on sure things like Winfield Jr or Chinn. Pace felt pressured to 'solve' tight end because of the glaring hole at the position that he was responsible for, at the detriment of improving the roster in other areas.
