The consistent ability to find defensive solutions really shines. The game is so much more strategic now, more than perhaps even just 10 years ago. As such, the way they neutralize matchup issues and take away strengths is better than just about any Lakers team that I can remember, and I’ve been watching for a very long time. AD is obviously phenomenal, but its not like we’re siccing a Coop or Artest on anybody to lock them up. It’s very much a team effort. So I really give Vogel a lot of credit. That was one of the things that stood out with those Pacers teams that gave the Heat hell and he’s brought that same attitude and structure here.
Yeah its that Pacers identity and approach except with Davis, LeBron, Rondo and Dwight manning the roles instead of happy feet Hibbert, Paul George, David West and Lance Stephenson.
A lot of the credit should also go to Pelinka as I've always felt we were short changing the small things in terms of the coaching set up and the attention to detail that brings. He has really had a vision for how a coaching staff should look, a great communicator in Vogel, backed up by solid veterans like Hollins, Kidd and Handy.
I've heard it on what might be the JJ Redick podcast that Tony Allen told him Rondo's shooting looks so much more consistent because he is shooting without much elevation, akin to what Kidd did in his late years to change his shot. That's player development for a late career player, who is stubborn as a mule but respects someone enough to open himself up for constructive change. Those kinds of things are priceless and just what add to winning at this caliber.
