NBA Bubble Winners and Losers

Post#1 » by TommyPointGawd » Sat Oct 3, 2020 1:25 pm

Going into the bubble nobody really knew what to expect. I really did enjoy having so much good basketball in the middle of a usually sports dry summer. Now that its almost over which players stock/outlook/perception drastically changed going forward due to their performance in the bubble?

WINNERS
Dame Lillard
Jamal Murray
Donovan Mitchell
Devin Booker
Bam Adebayo
Jimmy Butler
TJ Warren
Michael Porter Jr
Rajon Rondo
Carmelo Anthony
Gary Trent Jr (edited in)

LOSERS
Pascal Siakam
Paul George
Giannis(Milwaukee Supporting Cast and Coaches)
Victor Oladipo
Zion Williamson (slightly based on expectations)
Michael Porter Jr
Joel Embiid
Russel Westbrook

Honorable Mention for Winners

Tyler Herro
Robert Williams
Jonathan Isaac(also a loser)
timothe luwawu-cabarrot
Keldon Johnson
Bol Bol

Obviously this is just a snapshot reaction to the end of a unique season, but I think it's a fun exercise and I would like to see other opinions on it.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

How is Doncic not on the winners list? He played phenomenal in the bubble, especially against the Clippers.

Kemba also coming off an injury and wasn't as bad as Russ was. But everybody is free to have their own list. Kemba was close to making my losers though.

I didn't include the likes of Lebron, Davis, and Luka etc. because they all didn't really change anything I thought about them previously. They basically validated it. But it's fair to add Luka

Gary Trent Jr. Belongs on the winners list... he significantly changed his profile in the 2nd half of the season and was RED HOT during the bubble.

edit: Also why is Porter Jr. both a winner and a loser?

I dont know, I mean we havent seen Luka in the NBA Playoffs before. He played amazing in the regular season but putting an injury depleted team on his back like that, basically playing on one leg was really impressive.

I missed Trent. He is one of the biggest winners imo. I almost want to edit him in. Porter is also a big winner. But to me continues to over rate himself and be a bit a diva.

i think milwaukee and to some extend boston really underachieved. miami beating boston how they did exposed brad stevens and tatum a bit.

aside from that PG and Doc clearly biggest losers.

Kawhi Leonard--and his merry camp of "whisperers"--should be in the Losers section as well.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
RIP The Hater--keep up the good fight in the great beyond.

Winners: Lakers (Heat)
Losers: Everyone else

I mean I hate to be literal man, but I promise you this is how all the real ballers feel. You really think Dame cares he scored a bunch a points?

Tyler Herro is more than an honorable mention, he's clearly a winner. At only 20 years old, he made many key shots and was the dagger against Boston scoring 37 pts in Game 4 that put Miami up 3-1 that essentially sealed the series. If it weren't for him, it likely would've been a Lakers-Celtics Finals.

Of course, but I'm pretty sure nobody on this board played in the bubble. The criteria is about the "stock/outlook/perception" from a fan standpoint.

No doubt. And lots of other posters are going to answer this from that angle. I was just giving a slightly different perspective not trying to stop anyone else from exploring other avenues.

That’s how I feel about Donovan Mitchell - he scored 57 points in a loss and then 44 points in a loss... and then put up a dud in Game 7.

Lakers older injury prone players got a short season with long break to really make a run.

They got a little luck because I thought the Heat were on Mavericks type run.

If you put Lillard, you have to put Doncic as his stock raised more than Lillard’s. We’ve never seen Luka in the playoffs and the Clippers were his worst match up. Lillard was a known commodity.

Same for AD. He never got far in the playoffs.

I admit Luka may be a bad omission. He just didn't change any previous thoughts I had of him. He is a first team all nba player. Anything less he would have been in the loser catagory. There is a reason all the "losers" are really good players.

To me Dame ascended a level. Yes he has been a great player but he showed me a level of leadership and determination that raises him levels in my book. This is just my opinion. I kind of wanted people to have their own lists to compare.
