We needed a really hard bubble like the NBA/NHL but it is too late and not logistically possible. We could have used the CFL cities. It could have worked by getting exceptions to the players.

Taking a quick look at Rodgers contract, they effectively can't get out of it until after next season while avoiding the cap hit. So the earliest they can reasonably jettison Rodgers and go to Jones is the start of the 22 season.

I doubt he retires a Packer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has no great years left after leaving the Packers. They'd be foolish to let him go before exhausting his prime.

With the way he’s playing so far this year I doubt he falls off before the end of this contract. And the packers don’t really have a choice since they drafted love. I think the cut Rodgers in 2 seasons because that’s win the cap hit will be relatively small I believe

My guess is that when you hit this age it comes down to how rigorous you are with your conditioning and lifting and staying in muscular shape. You start to lose those things quickly if you don't put tons of work into it. If you are intense with keeping all of those things going (and probably lots of stuff to work football specific muscles for control as well as simply strength) then you probably don't ever fall off a cliff and can play into your 40s.

If you just get worn out or have an injury that prevents you from doing those things, you probably can fall off a cliff quickly. Your body can degrade faster and builds up slower.

Kurt Heimlich wrote:Per usual Doug nailed it. Rodgers is signed thru 2023, or his age 40 season. The Packers continue to be a step ahead of the game whereas the Bears continue to play the constant struggle of trying to catch up (and failing) at the QB position. It's basically a self fulfilling prophecy for the Bears (and the Packers on a more positive note) at this point.

Kind of depends what happens with Jones of course though. They're positioned well if they just drafted a good QB, but you're always positioned well if you drafted a good QB. One thing for Jones, since his contract will be up at the time Rodgers is up (if they keep Rodgers), there likely won't be a robust FA market for him since they will literally be the only team that knows anything about him.

It will make for an interesting negotiation on both sides. The Packers won't get a QB playing on a rookie deal, but they will probably pay very low end of starter money and if Jones busts out they could have a great deal still. They could also go for a long term deal and find out he's a bust and vastly overpay him, or both teams could decide to go short term.

Arizona losing to Carolina would make them both 2-2
Dallas falls to 1-3
NOLA gets to 2-2, Detroit stays winless
Seattle is having trouble with Miami, could be 3-1 or 4-0 today
Tampa might lose to LAC (2-2 or 3-1)
Minnesota is going to go 1-3

Looking forward to this Thursday, Tampa isn't unbeatable.

Bears get a FG. good drive, starting at own 7. Good to see the vertical passing game kick in- those 3 and 4 yard plays make it tough to sustain a drive.

Disappointing finish, but a good drive to still go the length of the field and at least get points. Had an open guy on 3-5 there and just missed him by 5 feet on a short throw, but at least points are on the board and after an initial rough defensive possession, the Bears D has looked solid.

Potentially a game changer. First and goal from the 3 and stop them from getting any points. To get 0 from a position where you probably have an 80% chance at 7 is awesome.

They were getting pressure and Rivers made a couple of plays. Keep that same pressure and he'll start seeing ghosts.

Get the lead here boys!

Oof, that sucks, good call, but that hurts. Still great stand by the defense to hold them to 3.

Fuller has been awful today. Gave up a TD, and two pass interference calls. Yikes.

Good stop there, the pressure on Rivers is going to be big in the second half. The offense can come alive when they're down. BDN baby!

I don't think Rivers is going to be under much pressure. They start with the ball and have moved it well and are up two scores. Bears need to dial up the pass rush to pressure him and force mistakes then Foles needs to make some plays. He has been awful so far. Bears really need to make plays to start this half, can't keep hoping to overcome multiple score deficits in the 4th.

That was the start we needed, now need to get points. Even 3 gets you within 1 score.
