Playing well. But in Game 1 his teammates were doggie doo, and in Game 2 his teammates weren't bad, but the Lakers were better. But I think you knew that.

Game Score was only recorded as a statistic starting in the 1983-84 season.

Some great pre-1984 Finals performances:

    Tom Heinsohn 1957 G7: 37/23

    Bob Pettit 1958 G6: 50/19

    Elgin Baylor 1962 G5: 61/22

    Bill Russell 1962 G7: 30/40 (40 rebounds is not a typo)

    Jerry West 1969 G7: 42/13/12

    Walt Frazier 1970 G7: 36/7/19

Also seems weird to use it when bball ref recently removed it from their advanced box score.. just a cursory look at the top playoff games by gamescore, you find a lot of big minutes, efficient big scoring games from otherwise one dimensional players... But does anyone remember sleepy floyd vs the Lakers as a top 3 all time playoff performance? Or isiah thomas vs the wizards in 2017?

I like butler, hate the Lakers, and do consider this game a great, instant classic performance, but clearly not even close to being the all time 2nd best finals game ever played

This was the greatest single game performance in the history of the nba. The other team got punked so bad they ran away off the court b4 the game even ended . Jimmy is a true leader instead of the front runner lebron . If jimmy was on 2011 miami they would not have lost to mavs

Onl Lebron James at had a better game score 42.5 after Game 6 vs the Warriors in 2016.

He put the Heat on his back to close out this must-win game, missing their 2nd & 3rd best players.

When it comes to the will to win, I genuinely believe Jimmy is the closest thing to Kobe Bryant. Lets forget about the 40 point triple-double (which is extremely impressive given the magnitude and circumstances) for a second, people will remember him for clapping back at Lebron years down the road. That was an all time savage moment.

Totally agree. Lebron is the best 3 quarter player ever, but unless he is dominating, he dominantly falls short in the 4th or struggles to insert his will at all times. Jimmy literally imposed his will while keeping his team involved. Lebron keeps his team involved, but pounds the ball for so long if not moving for a while. For example, there was one time in the post last night, he literally had the ball for like 10 seconds without intention. Lebron is a great passer and does well on fast break. However, there are times where Lebron is so ball dominant if it makes sense that it takes out the flow of offense outside of Davis/James.

I’ve been a Curry and Butler fanatic through and through, neither can do anything that impresses me anymore. Jim did survey the floor from his butt and found a great hockey assist I forget whether it was against the Celtics or the Heat. Now that was crazy.

Sidenote, Charles Barkley has two of the top 15 Game Scores and he only played in one finals.

If he would have teamed up with some ATG's he would have dominated this statistic......
I'm so tired of the typical......

Honestly you Heat fans get so defensive, you did the same thing last round. Why can’t you accept people having a different opinion to yours?

If you think that was a top 2 finals performance of all time then I’ll just let you believe that. I don’t know how long you’ve followed the NBA so I won’t make any assumptions about what you’ve seen

It’s not that “I can’t” it’s that I wouldn’t waste my time because I already know how the discussion would go based on previous experience

I want the Heat to win and I like Butler while hating half the Lakers. This has nothing to do with favouritism, can you say the same being Heat fans?

If we just go back to 1980 and assume an average of 5 or 6 games per final series thats 200-240 games

Are you honestly telling me you believe that game just now by Butler was a top 2 performance?

I don’t even understand how it’s insulting to say it’s not or to say I don’t think it’s top 20.

You’ve got finals performances by Magic, Bird, Isiah, Jordan, Shaq, Duncan, Wade, Lebron, Hakeem, Kobe and others when you factor in the teams that lost

Maybe I need to go back and re-watch this game, maybe the bubble atmosphere without crowds is taking away from the moment but I’m not seeing this in the same light as you guys and I have zero bias to not want to see it as a great game, again I’m a huge fan of Butler

Baby,

Just name the 20.

Why are you piddling on Jimmy's will to win by associating him with a guy who quit on his team in the first round of the playoffs?

Game Score actually undersells Jimmy's performance as it can't really capture defensive impact outside of boxscore #s. Jimmy was an absolute menace defensively, setting the tone from the beginning and forcing LeBron/AD into turnovers throughout the game. That defensive effort was arguably as significant as what he did offensively

In addition to the amazing offensive performance... Jimmy also guarded LeBron throughout the night. He guarded him on over 30 possessions last night.

LeBron's stats on those 30+ possessions? 9 points and 7 turnovers...

Straight BOSS on both ends of the floor...

Considering this guys limitations this was one heck of a game. Playing 5 out really seemed to unlock some things for him. He looked like an elite level floor general and consistently made the right reads down the stretch along with some nice D on Lebron.

I was getting frustrated by him having open looks at the rim and then kicking the ball out to a shooter for a contested 3. Until Rondo bodied him at the rim and stole his lunch money. I'm not sure if it's his short arms or lack of explosive vertical but he doesn't finish very well, particularity with contact. If the Lakers can do a better job of protecting the rim without fouling his efficiency will plummet. I don't see that happening with Lebron switching off of him due to screens and their bigs having to chase the heat centers off 3's. We'll see if the heat centers continue to shoot lights out.

I'm not knocking Jimmy, his D and playmaking was special.

It's a one liner that Stacey King used since Butler was drafted in 2011.

Even, ironically, when Butler barely scored, because his job was to be the defensive guard off the bench.
