Was that new theme music for Cody ? I felt like the audio was really unclear when he was coming out.

Cody definitely needs to lose to Brodie again, also he can be pretty cringe, returning to the ring after saying “no” personifies this, but in a way, he personifies wrestling. That said, I’ve missed him, but maybe should’ve been out longer.

The 8 man tournament has me super excited! Already 3 fun wrestlers and Omega looks to be the clean favourite. Omega vs. Fenix to open up perhaps? That has a lot of potential. This seems to be the path for Omega to get the title.

FTR are fun heels, as I said, I just like how they take the piss out of everything. The backstage segment was gold.

Why does Darby need to always win? Sammy never beat him, and Starks seemingly will suffer the same fate along with Cage. But I hope not, like Starks a lot more going forward.

Butcher in kayfabe makes sense to beat up Mox, but badly wished to see Fenix or Penta in there instead, especially as a main event title fight.

Not a bad show otherwise, but that main event left me a bit sour.

I’ve heard a few wrestling personalities suggest that MJF could be as big as The Rock or John Cena and I think it’s far fetched. For as entertaining as he is in on the mic and for as much as he makes people care about his matches, but I don’t think he has the look or the presence or the mainstream crossover appeal that either of those guys had. He’s also not working in a company that had the mainstream appeal that WWE has/had.

Those guys stood out in a special way. They were bigger, taller, had impeccable physiques, good looking, etc. MJF is all of 5’10, and while his physique isn’t bad by any means it’s not special. Just looks like a regular guy for now.

I do think he has a Roddy Piper kind of appeal though.

Personally, I think there's a huge difference between The Rock and Cena. Cena's never going to be in the Rock's league as far as popularity or performing - other than in-ring wrestling. 10 years from now, people will still come in droves to see Rock, but they're not going to do the same for Cena. MJF's still a kid who hasn't been in the WWE yet. Let's see how things go before writing him off because he doesn't have a great look.

I don’t disagree. The Rock is his own thing — one of the top actors in hollywood — so it’s even more preposterous that people are comparing MJF to him (even in terms of just potential).

I dont think he’ll see Cena level success either. However far off Cena is from Rock in terms of popularity and mainstream appeal, he’s still incredibly successful as an actor and I don’t think MJF makes it to his level. & fwiw, I don’t know what Cena’s career will look like in 10 years. The last 4 years he’s been trending upwards in Hollywood/as an actor.

I’m not going to write MJF off; he’s young and the potential is off the chart for him as a wrestler, but I just don’t see how he grabs an audience outside of wrestling and brings them in.

MJF needs another outlet to showcase his talents. He's multitalented and I see him in the mold of The Miz actually, but I do believe he can be better (no knock on Miz I find him to be really good).

Too early to tell. but if you can hang with Jericho on the mic, decent in the ring, and passable as someone who can beat someone up? You're half past there already.

The Brodie/Cody dog-collar match was pretty good. No complaints when it comes to the in-ring storytelling, or the pace of the match (though I don’t feel like they built to the finish smooth enough). I felt like they booked themselves into a corner by having Cody come back and continue a program with Brodie — especially by having it be for the title. If Cody wins then you undo all of the work that you did building Brodie and the Dark Order the last several weeks, and if Brodie wins then there’s still a sour taste because the baby face lost. Still, I think that may have been the way to go.

And then to top it all off — we have a serious moment where Cody is emotional and celebrating the victory with his team, saying he’s defending the title next week and Orange Cassidy comes out to accept the challenge. It just dulled the impact of the moment and immediately turned it into a more lighthearted/jokey segment than it needed to be.

Serena Deeb vs Big Swole was maybe the sloppiest women’s match Ive ever seen.

I understand the history between Luther and Jericho, but this match was just plain awful. No one knows who Luther is, many haven’t even seen him wrestle, and he looks fully out of place on the roster — let alone in the main event; it makes the product look bad having him in that position.

Luther looked sloppy, and shaky and slow and the pacing was just all over the damn place.

Meh I've seen a lot worse than that, tbh.

the show had so many old people i thought i was watching CMLL for a second  not one of the better lower ends but the main event and TNT title matches made up for it. The slow burn turn of Cody continues at least. He lost that match by all accounts.

But even better than WWE episodes.
For a weekly show it was ok, but this time it was a special episode, so it was a little bit disappointing. As a AEW spectator you're usually watch better shows.

True, but tbf the bar has been set really low.

Every time I entertain the idea of checking out the AEW recorded on my DVR, something like this pops up in my timeline. Is this supposed to drive viewership? Hard pass.

Most of WWE sucks too, but they’re like citizen Kane compared to stuff like this. High budget Indy shows don’t do it for me.

Different strokes - I thought it was creative and funny in a good way.

Loved that Omega squashed Sonny. It was the right decision on multiple levels.

I love Team Taz, and Taz as a mouth piece in general. They need to be on Dynamite EVERY week.

That being said, I feel like this Darby vs Starks feud has gone on for far too long. Not that I mind watching them interact/wrestle.

At first I was kind of cringing at the Debonair Dinner segment with MJF/Chris, especially when they started singing. As it went on though, I found it entertaining and for the first time I was seeing MJF’s potential as a celebrity level star. To me, that was a extra layer of performer/entertainer/versatility that I wasn’t expecting from him.

A singing, dancing backstage segment is hard to pull of but I think they nailed it.

I loved this episode to bits. The singing segment included, it worked for me. The squash match, the set up for Full Gear... Kingston’s promo sold it for me.

Bucks vs. FTR without any shenanigans would’ve been nice but Matt will have to sell a broken leg or something, rather do without that. Rather see a clean match with a clean finish.

Omega vs. Page at full gear, and I like how they set up the tourney aside from the Colt Cabana inclusion. The Sonny Kiss squash was perfect.

They’re building Omega up to take the title from Mox, I’m loving the long term outlook of aew.

It’s cool that some of you don’t, but I like this show.

Haven't followed Omega much in NJPW but a lot has been raving because of that squash with Sonny saying The Cleaner is back.

How exactly is The Cleaner different from the Kenny Omega of AEW?

I like AEW, I think they have so much potential and I want to see them succeed, but in recent weeks/months I have soured on them, somewhat. It has been getting a little too goofy and silly and comedic for my taste — when they have the stars to go in a different, more compelling direction.

That being said, I really enjoyed last nights show. It was breath of fresh air, a step in the right direction and was obviously booked much differently than past weeks. The show didn’t have a comedic overtone, guys were utilized properly — all the matches had a rhyme and a reason, etc.

FWIW, I didn’t really like, nor understand the Darby Allin segment; just doing stupid **** for the sake of doing stupid ****. No meaning behind it, whatsoever. Always like seeing Brit Baker, but the girl she was wrestling looked green as hell.
