Anthony Davis demanded to guard Butler and was given the assignment

"Davis was in foul trouble much of Game 3 and couldn’t play the aggressive style he’s accustomed to. The coaching staff intended to use Davis on Butler, but couldn’t risk it with foul trouble.

After that game, privately, a frustrated Davis alerted teammates and coaches that he needed to be glued to Butler, sources told Yahoo Sports.

And in Monday’s practice, Davis was officially given the assignment he wanted. After the ball was tipped and when the Heat got their first offensive possession, the tone was set when Davis shadowed Butler".

Makes sense. Jimmy has an old school game that shines when he can bully other swingmen. Putting a 6'10 guy with elite length and good quickness on him just sounds like a good idea.

I'm not sure what you want people to respond with? I mean it's hardly newsworthy that great defender wants guard the opposing teams best player.

And the heat didn't attempt to switch him off? Where was the adjustments?

Davis is going under all the way to the FT line. Dont know how you can force a switch. Jimmy would need to make him pay for going so far under

As much as I love AD, him guarding Butler was not the straw that broke the camels back.

I would instead credit the Lakers entire cast as a whole for staying on shooters and understanding where their man was at all times. Kuzma included, I don't think I saw one terrible play by any of the Lakers cast last game, it was absolutely a team effort. One of the better second halves I've seen the team play on defense. But as such:

I think it was impressive to see the best of AD coming out in this finals. Those first two games were like nothing I've really seen from an individual player since maybe Jordan, at least in the way that every time the Heat seemed to have a chance AD was there to stuff them or to instantly answer them - so on both ends.

But I have to agree that the others are all playing well. Who can't see Caruso also saving so many possessions and getting second chances for them? Who hasn't seen how little time Robinson has to get his shot's off. They are leaving no slack.

I do think AD took the wind out of Butler's sails in the last game. Took him out mentally before that game was over.

Why doesn’t Davis demand to guard real centers. Nope. He ain’t dumb. He doesn’t like to guard centers bigger than him who can post him up.

So sure. Go guard a 6 foot 7 guard/forward with short arms who likes to drive more than his shoots.
