Re: 2020 Presidential Election Thread: The Homestretch
I didn't watch the debate but I heard Pence asked Harris three times about court packing and she never gave a yes or no. I think that will leave people in the middle awfully uneasy. They're used to nine justices. Contemplating a future that allows that packing behavior will be unsettling IMO.
The people have shown time and again they LIKE it when there are checks and balances to power. When the President is one party and at least one of the House/Sentae is another. A more or less stalemated legislative branch.
What the Democrats are allowing room for thought here is something very different. It's going to get hammered on going forward.

The polls say that the people are gong to crush Trump and the republican Senate.

Pence is a right wing radio personality who knows how to manipulate talking points. I wouldn't buy a used car from him.

The bottom line is Trump ended in the same place he was at when the debate started. Great news for Biden/Harris.

Pence is exactly why the “debates” should have real time fact checking. The ease with which he lies is dangerous to an uneducated voter. Still he didn’t answer a single question.

I thought that the moderator was going to have mic cancelling capabilities. I guess that's just for Trump. Dumb.
Also, did you notice that every time Kamala put a smackdown on him, Pence would look down at his notepad and started scribbling to avoid looking guilty as sin.

Pence was low energy. I’m sure Trump is talking **** about him as we speak. I can’t see anyone deciding to break for Trump after seeing Pence. Kamala didn’t hurt Biden which is the most important point. Just look how Palin absolutely tanked McCain’s presidency.
Well, apples and oranges there. Palin was basically talking gibberish iirc.
Harris did help the ticket though. Despite not laying any big blows, polls are saying that she came out of the debate with a higher rate of appeal than when she entered. Basically, people liked her.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election Thread: The Homestretch
The fact that a fly landing on Pence's head is the most talked about aspect of the debate pretty much tells you all you need to know in terms of the quality and substance of the debate. The fact of the matter is that neither Biden/Harris and Trump/Pence is running on policy; neither side wants to discuss policy because they don't really have any of substance
Biden has openly campaigned on "nothing should fundamentally change," fear mongering about "The Republicans are going to overturn Roe v Wade," and the unfairness of the Republicans having an absolute majority to pick yet another SC justice. Democratic talking points have centered on how they might rig the system in their favor with some combination of stacking the courts, eliminating the Electoral College, and making DC and PR states. The goal is push all the attention to Trump's failutres, mainly the Covid response, and avoid talking about Biden's dementia.
Trump has no plan beyond doing what's best for him and pandering to his voters by focusing on the SC and signaling Roe v Wade could be overturned, continuing to passive-aggressively support a "white, religious" American identity, and creating fear about Democrats taking away guns and implementing some sort of radical left plan.

This guy should moderate all of the presidential debates.
