I don't like that there is the idea that a narrative will attract views. It kind of reminds me of WWE.

I watch the finals because it's good competitive Basketball

Were over this storyline. No one cares about Lebron's(& the media) quest to to catch Jordan. Its not going to happen and were ready to move on.

There are a lot of reasons for this. Whenever you have finals games on during the NFL, you’re going to struggle with viewers.

Streaming throws the ratings off, but there is also LBJ fatigue, BLM fatigue and they are competing w/ the NFL. They are working against alot of stuff right now.

So much for the idea that getting LeBron in to a larger television market would boost ratings through the roof.

Now, maybe if Miami can make a comeback, people will start tuning in to see if LeBron can be denied his 4th title.

I think you are right on every topic. Specially streaming... I'm from EU and i don't know a single person that is watching NBA through "regular" or legal channels. Me and others, are watching NBA basically through illegal streams or downloading torrents. Those things don't come up in ratings. Still, NBA or basketball, is basically 2nd most popular sport in the world behind football, and no i'm not talking about US eggball, i mean real football.

He shouldn't be surprised. They are competing with NFL and there is no atmosphere at these games.

What are the viewing numbers of finals relative to rest of playoffs? If that ratio is low then you might think it's specific to the teams and players in the finals.

The Finals have drawn great ratings over the past decade, with LeBron, and no substantial number of people are tuning out because BLM is written on the court.

-Competing with football
-Competing with fall television
-The world we're in, sports viewership down across the board
-The bubble and the atmosphere of games
-People cord-cutting during COVID, more people watching via illegal streams

These are the real reasons, but everyone wants to apply their own agendas to the low ratings.

Streaming isnt a culprit at all, imo. Streaming wasnt invented this year, and this years finals are down 65%+ on last seasons.

I think no one cares as much about Lebron and LEbron and the NBA tell the fans they do. NBA needs a face, Always had one. Just Lebron is far from a likeable guy. Once they move the face over to Giannis the ratings will improve.

I'm a little surprised at game 4's ratings of less than 5.3 million viewers, especially since it was on a Tuesday and not competing against the NFL. Game 1 had 7.4 million and game 2 dropped to 6.1, but Friday ratings are usually lower. Then against the NFL on Sunday I understand the 5.9. But the further big drop on Tuesday which is a usual NBA Finals night and on a major network without any real competition was kind of odd.

Are those numbers correct? My understanding was Game 4 had the highest viewership. It's in the wiretap.

Yeah at 35 years old and being one of the best ever the interesting narrative is younger stars chasing him, not Bron still chasing Jordan's ghost.
