It's kind of a win-win. Cs get a roster spot, Vinny gets to actually play and be closer to home.

But I wonder if he is fully bought out, does the $2.62M remain on the Celtics' books? I think it still does. I know Ainge said they're anticipating the team as taxpayers next season, but if they can avoid the tax, they will. Every dollar counts. And essentially paying Poirier to play on another team is not good business. Since we still have to fill in that roster spot.

I would think we hold all the cards here. He knows we are not going to play him and Ainge can make it clear he wants him to go. His window to play pro ball is only open for so long. He can't just wait a year. A European team can probably pay him close to what we are paying him right? So he could cancel the contract or take a very very small buyout. If not he waits around hoping we trade him to someone who might buy him out for more or try to play him. But I think he knows he is not an NBA level talent.

Yep, he can very well agree to a full buyout so he can play abroad. His salary number still remains on the Celtics books and will count against luxury tax if we can't duck it. So him leaving for Europe isn't really the issue here. Preferred route is still for him to get traded with no salary coming back.

I've brought it up a few times, but no one seems to want to talk about it and I don't really want to make a new thread for it: WHAT ABOUT MELO? Obviously just for vet min, bench role, can cut him at first sign of any problems. Seems low risk kind of high reward. I think he has shown that he is not done. I always hated his game but late in his career he might be useful.

He shot the 3 better than anyone on our team and he scored more than anyone off our bench. But yeah, let's not bother to consider it.

Forgot about the cap hit sticking. Well we have a lot of late picks we probably wont have room for. If we need the money for tax reasons I could see him plus a late pick traded for a future pick that's so heavly protected is it basically trading for nothing.

Is there an UFA center you could for tax MLE or less that is an improvement over Kanter?

Baynes - probably gest more. Danny did him dirty.
Noel - probably gets more. Trouble in BOS area so the theory goes.
Howard - don't want BOS teenage girls to have to worry.

Myers / Mahinmi / Plumlee / Biyombo- are any of them better? I don't really know.
Willy Hernangomez / Ante Zizic - still kinda young and we already have Timelord for young developing center. And that Tacko guy.

Celtics fans wildly overrate Baynes but he would probably come cheap. He's 33 and was hurt a lot last year. He didn't even play in the Bubble and the Suns went 8-0. Do we want to give Brad another reason to not play the Williamses though?

Can Derrick Favors still move? I've always wanted that guy on the Celtics.

[My preference is still to develop Timelord, but we may need some sort of insurance big not named Pear Tree.]

The quest doesn't end. I don't care however long it takes. If it takes 365 more days to get that 18th banner, we WILL get there! Go Cs!

GALLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... for the MLE.

Prediction: He'll be a Laker. Everybody will be a Laker or a Heatie now.

Been saying this for two years now. And the Lakers and Heat in the Finals will just increase their pull with NBA stars. If (when) this trend continues, they might as well just contract to half a dozen teams, put them all in warm cities with great nightlife and/or media hubs, and call it good.

I am also against it for basketball reasons. But if it brings us karmic cleansing, I'm all for it.

BUT KARMIC CLEANSING! What's the point of bringing in taller PGs and good players if they'll only keep getting injured because of what we did to IT?

I'm only quarter-joking at this point. Will increase to half-joking if we get another significant injury next season.

I'm pretty sure that if Carsen Edwards carry Tremont Waters on his shoulders, we have a 6'4 point guard.
