On a smaller level this is why Theis hurt us a lot in the playoffs. He played his usual solid D but was a complete non-factor on O. I actually think Precious could provide some roll gravity that would help the offense in the same way Rob really helps our offense but Brad doesn't like those type of players..

Agreed on the Theis part, but Precious aint better than Theis in this regard. And at least he can hit a J in the paint. Precious gets hustle points vs less athletic guys but he wouldnt do anything vs a clogged paint zone in the playoffs. Let someone else make that mistake.

In my opinion this like like people saying don't draft Bam Adebayo because he sucks on offense. Celtics would love to have Bam Adebayo.

Again: Bam displayed SIGNIFICANTLY more touch at the hoop, more touch on his jumper and was a better FT shooter. He also frequently ran point in HS. He had building blocks.

Precious has zero building blocks.

We just have a difference of option. In 2-3 years we can debate how the Celtics can get a player like Precious Achiuwa when he is tearing it up on some other team.

You know his defense is going to be there coming from Duke. I don't know, but a couple years under Kemba and Smart could bring this guy along.

defensively he checks the boxes, but I don't know if he is a strong enough shooter..

I now everyone keeps suggesting PG types. Kemba is injury prone and 30 years old.

BUT one thing that has not been mentioned at all is, if Boston gets a PG, Smart now becomes a full time 2 guard. I love Smart as a PG. When Smart has the ball in his hands he creates often. When Smart is off the ball and doesn't touch it as much, he becomes a spot up shooter way too much.

Kemba in all likely hood is not going anywhere and has 3 more years. Smart is an easy capable PG meanwhile. We can get a PG at 30-47, a veteran, if necassary. Or just draft one next year.

Boston needs the best Wings/Bigmen they could find > more than a PG IMO.

That's why you get a PG who can play well off the ball. For example Haliburton (who a few posters have heard the Cs love) can play well both on and off ball as a spot-up-shooter. In fact he was 99th percentile as a spot-up-shooter in Div 1 this season. That way he can both be your lead guard as well as a guy who can play off the Jays, Smart, Romeo, etc..

Positionless basketball.

Smart should be the playmaker when on the court, imo. You could technically call Kemba the SG, and Smart the PG.

Yeah, gimme tall physical wings/swings: Beys, Reed, etc.
If we trade up and get Hali as a PG with length that can play off ball, I'm great with that. Since you draft BPA.

But where our picks are, those wings/swings ARE the BPA, imo. I think our regime tends to not consider height/toughness enough as skills in the BPA equation.

A 3rd string PG or center at 30, I'm fine with.

Yes and a one type of player who can do the most of everything on offense and on defense is the wing player

Will there be individual workouts in this draft?

Just curious I'm about 1/3rd of my top 50 bigboard and I was wondering if there is a web site that already has head to head matchups? Like Ramsey vs Jones as example did they play each other type thing thanks

It's been a few weeks since Boston played.. Anyone change their top 3 or 4 for the Celtics pick at 14.

Mine is slightly tweaked. No longer do I have Kira Lewis in my top 4..

For me, regardless of Hayward (I expect) being on the team or not.

1 - Sediq Bey - fits in just too well and can play right away at a good level. Great floor without a great ceiling.

2 - A Nesmith - a 2-3 perfect 3 and D player who also is rthe perfect compliment to Tatum/Brown/Kemba

3 - Pat Williams - a 3-4-5 Boy in an ever growing man's body. Might have the lowest floor of the top 2, but a higher possible ceiling. bit at 6'8 225 and just turning 19, wouldn't surprise me to see him at 6'9 and 250 playing all front court positions well within a year or two.

4 J Smith - still up and down on him, yet his inside/outside potential both on offense and defense is exactly what the doctor ordered for a center on Boston.

I really want to walk away with Bey & Reed. If we could get Poku, too, awesome.
May not be possible, but that would be perfect to me.

I would use 47 to make it a little more possible:
26 & 47 for 24 maybe 23.
30 & 47 for 28 or 27.

Other options for 3rd pick if things don't fall my way: J Green, T Bey, Tillie, Azubuike

By unless someone really drops there's nobody I care about and we already have 3 guys.
Just go UDFA to battle Waters/Tacko for 2-way at that point.

If one of Okongwu, Vassell, Haliburton drop to 9-11 range, I'd do 14, 30, 47 for them.

Sounds like there are a few coming along with me on the Saddiq Bey @ 14 band wagon, but not enough yet !!!
I really think he checks all the boxes for what we need to come in right away and contribute and still be able to grow with Tatum, Brown, Smart, Langford, G. Will and Timelord. His shot may be a bit low and slow, but dang it, they go in. 20 of his 31 games he made 2 or more three pointers. Avg. 45 % on 3's at 5.6 attempts. That's the main point. Big wings is the way this league is going. Brad is running an offense that features 4 shooters and a big. Saddiq Bey just fits so perfect. Nesmith is a close, a bit smaller, but will work if Bey is gone as a second option.

We can get the back up point guard with the 26th. I still like Tre Jones there, due to his size and defense. 6'2.5 and 185 lbs. He's 3rd on Tankathon's list in assists at 6.5 per, tied for 6th with 1.8 steals, and shoots 36% on 3's. Learned his defense at Duke, and being a Carolina fan, I know from watching him play, and having to listen to announcers all game tell me how good he is. lol

I also like Daniel Oturu as a big with the 30th. Good rim protector, low post scorer, 6'10 with 7'2 wingspan. Avg over 11 boards, 2.5 blocks and even hit on 36.5% of his threes. Give him a year and he will easily be better than Kanter, and a great option at back up 4/5.

I'm all about tyrell teryy, precious and vassell at the moment. I guess I'm okay with kira too but eh he's a bit small. If Terry has gained weight, that is promising.

RW3’s role is small because he his hurt 67% of the time

he is also out of position half the time.

That means 17.5% of the time he is doing exactly what we need.

Yeah. I have added Tyrell Terry to my list. But I think he could go as high as 9 or 10 to Washington/Phoenix.

Right now my top tier is:

Kira Lewis
Patrick Williams
Tyrell Terry

Next tier:

Aaron Nesmith
Saddiq Bey
Precious Achiuwa
Cole Anthony
Tyrese Maxey
RJ Hampton

I think all top tier will be gone at 14 and I'm having a lot of trouble separating my next tier. I'm starting to feel like RJ Hampton could be a Russel Westbrook type of dominant player.

Totally agree. The Celtics have more than enough playmakers in this already with Kemba, Smart, and Hayward, and then we're looking for Tatum and Brown to work on improving that part of their game too.

Maybe it's due to the impression Carsen Edward left, but a rookie PG that struggles to find his shot is almost unplayable. Meanwhile if we draft someone like Saddiq Bey, even if he struggles to find his offensive rhythm early in the year, you can still play him because of his ability to guard multiple positions. You look at a guy like Jae Crowder, who prior to joining Miami had horrendous 3pt% for the last 3 years but continues to be useful to teams because of his defensive versatility and because he still is considered a threat from 3.

If we were to add a PG, I'd prefer it to be a vet, sort of like how Rondo is to the Lakers right now. Someone like Jeff Teague or even a Shabazz Napier.

Expecting that Nesmith's stock will rise now after that Duncan Robinson performance against the Heat. This kid is a bit like him. He can take the 3 in many different ways, even when he's out of balance or getting contested.

He's the type of sharp shooter we really lack of the bench.
