Is there a Bears / Cowboys trade out there?

Would they give us anything for Trubisky?

That Justin Herbert kid looks like a QB.
Him and Josh Allen are some big ole country boys that can fling it.
I gotta think this is what Pace was 'seeing' in Trubisky, he wanted one of these type of white boys.

It's pretty clear they won't draft or sign a black QB.
These rumors we were in the 'running' for Brady are really brutal to hear now because that has to mean we could have had Cam Newton. I'm not buying they think Foles is better than Cam even if they guy has won a SB. They never pursued Cam because of color.

Name the last black bears starting QB.....
It was 15 years ago. Pathetic.

:dontknow:

I've always thought that was weird, we're not racist anywhere except QB, but that does seem to have been a thing in the NFL, and over the scope of the league it would be silly to think its not.

There are logical reasons why they didn't go with a black QB the last few times (drafting Trubisky or passing on Cam) but they were wrong both times. I don't know that race played a factor in their decision. I have no reason to think it did, but it wouldn't floor me if there were some subconscious bias going on either as that happens everyone whether we like it or not (which is why its subconscious and not conscious).

Not sure the time since last black QB is really meaningful when you go back to different front offices unless you think Virginia is so involved that she's ordering white QBs only.

I do think she comes from that era and grew up with hardcore racism and lives a very sheltered, protected life.
Weidner did a great podcast when they interviewed her last year-

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bears/ct-spt-bears-virginia-mccaskey-100-years-podcast-20190325-story.html

She's still stuck in the 30's.

Black people were BANNED from the NFL in that era when she was a pup going to games with Papa Bear.

Some people still speculate Halas was responsible for the ban-
You read stories now and Halas probably had the power and influence to break the ban and sign a black player and be a trailblazer but he did not. It was a different country then with pasty white guys running everything. She's still living in that era IMO.

I mean we haven't even had a second or 3rd stringer black QB.

I find the idea that the Bears do not have a black QB because of racism pretty far fetched. In this day and age, and with the number of successful black QB's in the league, I find it hard to believe any GM or head coach would make a decision at qb based on race. Their careers are far too important to them to not find the best QB possible for their team.

You're right - I totally forgot abut that guy!
He did start a game when Cutler was hurt.

Love Smiths final year, the 10-6 no playoffs team....

didn't last long but he's the last one - 8 years ago

Jason Campbell - drafted in 2005 right after current Packers QB Aaron Rodgers
Current Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was a 7th rounder that year.

The guy we drafted #4 is DEAD :o

On the topic of QB's - I wonder what the Chargers would want for Tyrod Taylor. They're planning to stick with Herbet after he started well. I know Foles can be injury prone and I'm not thrilled with Trubisky being the backup option.

Both Trubisky and Taylor expire at the end of the year - wonder if they'd be open to a swap.

the bears were the 9th franchise to start a black QB...in 1979. and it's not like their hand was forced by the prevalence of great black QBs...i'll bet most people can't even name a black NFL QB prior to warren moon, who was the first black starting QB for four different franchises (sixteen years apart)

THIRTEEN teams never started a black QB until this century, w/ the giants finally doing so in 2017 (geno smith)

if virginia mccaskey had EVER demanded that no black QB be hired, we'd almost certainly know about it

The Bears also started Willie Thrower for a game back in 1953 before the merge.

The Bears should sign Lev Bell. Without Cohen they're down to 1.5 RBs.

Bell released outright. Jets doing the hard tank!! Lol!!

I know he isn’t what he was. But he’d be helpful to us because we can stop trying to use Patterson as a back. Not that he’s terrible at it. But we need him in the return game.

Bears are 27th in rushing yards per game, 32nd in rushing touchdowns, and lost Cohen AND one of their better offensive lineman, so those numbers likely get worse.

I have no idea what kind of shape Bell is in and how bad he is in the locker room, but hopefully the Bears at least do their homework on him. They need some jolt to their running game if they want to be serious about the playoffs.

Match made in heaven. Our offense is mediocre, backfield is slow and down a running back. Do it.

Getting Snacks to replace Goldman was also a match made in heaven and yet Snack ended up with SEA. Do I want Bell on the Bears, yeah, but you, me and every Bears fan knows the Bears won't sign him.

I remember back in the 70's when we drafted Vince Evans out of USC (I think he was the first black QB I saw). He was Bob Avellini's back up for most of his Bears career. I remember how terrible Avellini was and I always wanted Evans to play. I also remember being at a game with my father where Evans played and the Bears won 61-7 and crushed the Packers. I can remember Walter Payton, who was already my favorite player, scored three TD's in one quarter. I think Evans threw for over 350 yards and 3 TD's which was unheard of for a Bears QB at the time. I think it's still the biggest beating the Bears ever put on the Packers. So, I'll always remember Vince Evans.

Evans would stick around long enough to back up Jim McMahon for a year or two before going to the Raiders.
