What was with Braun's stare down after the HR?

Happened to see the HR and then was listening to an interview with Hart. He said there is a story behind it. Wonder what that had to do with? Later you could see Yost had a talk with him and he apologized to the Astros Catcher.

I remember Prince getting on him about watching one earlier in the year. This was obviously directed at someone in the Brewer dugout (and it didn't look friendly). my guess would be Prince-breaking the rookie home run mark?

Sure hope their isnt issues with two of our best playes..

personally I think it was more just showing some spark and cockiness that the Brewers need if they want to be a feared team in the comin years.. I dont yet feel this team goes out everyday and thinks they are going to win.. I hope that chances.. and if a little jerkiness needs to happen with some players so be it.

I hope it's not a real big deal, but when I had seen it, I've gotta say....I was a little disappointed with Braun. Confidence is great, cockiness gets old REAL quick.

He was staring into the Brewers dugout, not the Astro's dugout, not the Astros players, not Prince on deck. He must have been talking to someone before his at bat about not swinging at a certain pitch or Braun telling someone he was going to jack one.

I don't think it was that big of a deal and it certainly wasn't directed in any way at Houston. If it had been, his next at bat would have started with one under the chin.

My guess would be this- Fielder has a habit of ribbing guys on the team. Probably something over the homerun (that tied the Brewer rookie record-with Prince). I think the two have a ongoing competitive battle. I don't think there is any "issues" between the two. Braun lives in my condo building and run into him a lot. I'll have to joke to him about it and see what he says. The thing about Braun that amazes me is that he has that kind of power on a that small of a frame. When you see him close up he is a pretty small guy.

PS -Bogut is back in Milwaukee. Ran into him yesterday-he lives down the hall from me. Good guy, despite what some say. Had on his Petrovic jersey and looked pretty shaggy as usual. Definetly not a bling guy, which I think is refreshing.

Your probably right it was more towards the dugout (Fielder would have been further towards the plate). Not a big deal, but that's the first time I've seen a guy hit a HR, not be happy, stop, and do a couple double takes into his own dugout.

Glad to see Yost talk to him...I have to think it was all in good fun, but certainly it looked pretty obnoxious and it's good he talked to the catcher about it as well.

DT, I probably shouldn't ask about Bogut's hair on the Brewer forum, but are you saying he's gotten rid of his Jedi tail, or has it just grown in around it?

Braun certainly could still bulk up a bit (listed at 6'2" / 200)...he's probably fine staying the way he is, as he's still got good speed and plenty of pop obviously.

Reminded me of the Bull Durham sscene...

"He starts me off with a curveball I'm taking him downtown" Costner tells his teammates as he leaves the dugout.

Costner hits a bomb and then looks back into his dugout as he slowly starts running to first.

Wouldn't surprise me if it were something like that.

I personally loved the staredown. I love Braun's cockiness. I was not really thrilled when they showed Yost yelling at him and perhaps telling him to apologize. Braun is a rookie, he will learn in time that antics like that will get him/someone else on the team drilled. It's not up to Yost to bitch at him, just let him be. Braun will be a Brewer far longer than Yost. Do you think Bonds got bitched at by his manager after every staredown? No, it's his perogative. Braun is a grown man, any thing Yost tells him should be concerning the game itself, not bitching at him for showing a little arrogance after pretty much solidifying NL rookie of the year.

Who cares about whatever stare down you guys are talking about. Pujols and Edmonds stare at everything. Especially Pujols, hell, Pujols even admires his fly outs. Braun is a stud, he can stare down anything he wants, even if it's against the Cards. Then him and Pujols can go out afterwards and stare at things together.

I don't mind it. Milwaukee teams are too nice. We need some cockiness, some swagger. I'm sick of being the "nice guys". I loved the staredown. It's like he said to Houston, "yeah, I'm that good, bitches!"

The story is, Braun and Fielder had a bet going regarding the Brewers rookie home run record. Fielder bet him he couldn't break it during the current homestand. Not sure what the bet was for, but Braun obviously broke it and stared at Prince right after he hit it. Yost wasn't too impressed and told Braun to apologize to the catcher.
