Meh.

Test run to see if Chauncey meshes with the players then to give Chauncey the role?

This is a terrible, lazy hire. It honestly feels like we never fired Doc in the first place. :noway:

Ty Lue time!!

Post#4 » by Clemenza » Thu Oct 15, 2020 6:46 pm

Lets go!! We didn't need a savior plus this is going to be a high pressure win now gig so a guy or of college or outside of the league wasn't the move for this go around. All we need is a serious demeanor and less foolishness, adjustments made in games, no favoritism, and develop some talent

We didn't need a savior, we needed a coach. Instead we hired someone who watched the games while LeBron did all the coaching for him.

It's impossible for me to get excited about another proven mediocre-at-best retread when that's all the Clippers ever hire and it never works for us.

It does seem that Lue is a backwards hire. But he has two things going:

1. He's younger. Doc Rivers is 59 years old, and has coached for 20 years. Doc coaches guys who played for him before, who defeated him, and his own son. Lue has never exhibited those behaviors.

2. He broke an unbreakable record. No team in NBA history had ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, the record was 32-0. Under Lue, the Cavs broke the Cleveland Curse with that comeback, defeating the 73-9 Warriors in the process. The only reason why the Cavs lost in consecutive Finals after the 3-1 miracle comeback was that Golden State acquired Kevin Durant to give them a Fantastic 4.

I have my doubts about this hire, too. But I'm not going to call this a Doc Rivers 2.0 situation, not yet. Let's see what Lue can do.

Yeah, but you didn't even mention his ability or style of coaching. Lue has a reputation of being a Ra-Ra guy with little in the way of X's and O's. Since our roster as presently constructed lacks a floor general (like Lue had in LeBron), there isn't much suggesting that he brings what we need.

I wonder why this promotion happened after 2 weeks. Did our FO really searched? Wasn't happy with what they found yet? Was that a panic move bc Lue was about to sign with Houston or Pelicans?

Time will tell i guess.

Not sure he's the right guy for the job. He took a leave of absence in 2018 because it got to much for him, which is fine. But not sure he's cut out for the rigors and stress of a head coaching job and the pressure that will come to win.

I do not think he is the right choice. I do like to Chauncey Billups hire, but if he is give the lead assistant role, that probably means we will lose Cassell and possibly Kalamian too.

I don't see Lue as a better coach than Doc, but he maybe willing to listen the assistants more, rather than go with his gut and ego every time like Doc did.
5-year deal sounds too much.

I’m fine with it. Nothing to get excited about but not hating it either. I like the addition of Billups a lot. If reports are true the prominent players were in favor of hiring Lue so there’s that at least.

My real concern was the roster and the changes needed to it. That’s what I’m waiting to see unfold.

Fun fact: Ty Lue's record without LeBron in Cleveland was 1-23. Not even Kyrie and Love were enough for him to win regular season games with. He needed the GOAT to carry him. I'd love to hear why he'd do any better here.

How is it that fans can see obvious red flags like this from a mile away but this organization continues to ignore them and hire the most uninspiring coaches available every single time? :noway:

I think it's the right choice and I find myself realizing he's who I was hoping for.

he's the right choice and i like billups as lead assistant, because he's gonna be the guy to step up in case lue doesn't make it work.
