Man, I kind of feel bad for Colangelo and the coaches during this era.

How frustrating is it to have a player, this damn talented, with no heart.

It's crazy.

"I do things that are more complicated than rebounds and defense." - Bargs
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Hey David West. You know what? There's this whole thing called "giving a **** about basketball". Bargs didn't have that.

A lot of players in our rearview mirror are pretty underrated right now. Calderon and Bargnani would be two of them. They were playing in a frustrating era of basketball for us, and they seemed to get the majority of the ire. Not saying that duo would blow this NBA outta the water, but I think the argument could definitely be made that that team was ahead of its time.

And that is why Colangelo sucked. He only ever saw just a part of the picture. West is a bit the same here.

Shoulda called them Dantoni Colangelo and Oops Not LMA.

But Primo is still in business.

Wade is basically Ben Gordon without the 3-point shooting. Sure, he's been a pretty good defender this year, so that would upgrade, but I'd rather have Gordon because he's cheaper and can hit those threes

I always thought about this. People were on Bargnani to be a good rebounder (his post up D was decent), but hes pretty much what you are looking for in a mobile big man that can hit a 3 and make a pass.

We really didnt have good coaches, but in this era Bargnani would have been a much better player.

Bosh I think lived up to the expectations (all star, decent player but no game changer) even with a career cut short.

Unless Bargs could effectively switch on defense, he'd be the same guy. Bosh definitely would have benefitted in the current NBA.

Could you imagine Bargs out there in the Celtics series trying to helplessly defend Kemba, Brown, and Tatum in pick & rolls? Or trying to scramble/rotate/close out the 3 point line?

Or trying to decide whether to help on a drive?

Or flexing his basketball IQ in crunch time?

The game of basketball is still basketball, work ethic is always the same, and Andrea just did not have it, he was lazy on D, and grabbing rebounds.

i always liked bargnani (my username is "magician" in hindi) and i do believe that he would have had a better career if he was drafted later.

However, "blow the nba outta the water" is very strong. David West is clearly misremembering Bargnani. His best skill was shooting and he wasn't even that good of a shooter. His defense would be even more magnified now as switchability and rim protection is even more valuable now.

This tweet just about sums it up.

Again, Calderon was a nice point guard, but he had a lot of weaknesses.

He was very slow defensively, would get blown by by guards, was not very athletic, was not a good rebounder etc.

Offensively, he would rarely drive to the basket. He was an excellent shooter and had very good chemistry with Bosh on the pick and roll. He couldn't really create his own shot, shoot off the dribble well etc. He was an elite spot up shooter and good at shooting coming off the pick and roll. Calderon is a guy who in today's league would like nice in the regular season but get absolutely roasted in the playoffs.

Yes.

I mean Bosh would be great in every era. People forget how dominant Bosh was in Toronto. His issue was that he didn't have a 2nd all-star with him that could really compete in the playoffs.

Remember that Bosh was among the top 5 in efficiency during his time year in Toronto and averaged 24 and 11 on elite shooting in his final year with us. He was a beast.

Imagine you paired prime Bosh and prime Lowry together...that's a very, very dangerous team.

Anybody have Bargs advanced stats? Like were we net positive with him on/off? Particularly his prime year with us without Bosh

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.
