#1 to NY w/GS and Pho

Post#1 » by Dom801e » Sat Oct 17, 2020 1:47 am

NY trades #8 and Robinson for #1 and Looney.
Robinson plus #8 has been rumored for both #1 and #2. Min seems to want a bit more; NY does not seem to want to deal Robinson unless they are sure their guy is there. So #2 is a no go unless it is draft night. This deal rectifies that. They also get a vet replacement C on an expiring inexpensive deal.

Min trades #1 and James Johnson for #2.
The Wolves move a contract for future flexibility and retain a top 2 pick. They likely would be looking to package it in the future.

GS trades #2 and Looney for Oubre and #8.
There have been talks of Oubre +#10 for #2. This iteration improves upon this a bit. Taking on Oubre is expensive given tax implications so moving Looney relieves a bit of that as his health may lead them to move on from him anyway.

Pho trades Oubre for Johnson and Robinson
Oubre seems to be the odd man out long term for the Suns. Here they replace him in the rotation with a tough, defensively versatile wing in Johnson. He fits what they do and is also a FA, but he would be much more easier to keep for a couple more years. They also add Robinson, who would give them a different look than Ayton. He would fit nicely in the rotation and could spot start on nights when Ayton is out.

If I have said it once I have said it a thousand times. Trading Robinson to move up is pointless and counter productive. We fill one hole with either Edwards or Ball but then open up another one by trading Robinson. Just no point.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential :tooth and still be treated as if you were reasonable.

There are a couple reasons why this won’t work for MIN.

First, turning Johnson into a TPE removes the chances for salary matching many very good players that don’t fit in a $16 mil TPE, like Aaron Gordon, Oladipo, Myles Turner. That’s why GSW wants him. Johnson isn’t worth $16 mil, but he’s also MIN’s best piece for salary matching. He has also been better on and off the court than expected,

Second, while 1 and 2 may be in the same tier, being able to make the first choice is a big deal. It carries more weight because if you have the first choice, you get to pick any guy that may erupt in pre-draft workouts. More importantly, the #1 pick guarantees you get the guy you want, and with MIN willing to trade the pick at #1, any #2 pick carries a lot of risk.

The concept is good, but if the Knicks were to offer a legitimate package for #2, MIN would cut out GSW. IMHO, the Knicks package doesn’t get it done, because of the upside limits on both Robinson and the #8.

Sorry but this is terrible for the wolves. No way the wolves trading down to dump Johnson. He's both a useful player and an expiring contract for trade puposes.

No chance the Wolves pay to dump Johnson. This is a non-starter for Minnesota.

If the Warriors wanted no part of this deal. What would it take for them to just get Oubre with their TPE? A future 1st? He's a 1 year rental.

I think GS would prefer Robinson over Oubre. MIN seems unnecessary. Just 2/?? for 8/Robinson makes some sense, though a bit short on value for the Knicks.

If Phx has big FA plans maybe a future GS 1st.. otherwise phx is going to value Oubre much more then a 1 year rental.

Trading up with Mitch is DOA for NY.

I like it but can we add a few of our 2nds or 21 FRP And just take Robinson too?

Phoenix may value picks more than a back up to Ayton.
