David West: Bosh, Bargnani 'would blow this NBA out of the water

"I thought about this the other day. When Bargnani and Bosh were in Toronto, the reason why that **** didn't work is 'cause the NBA let us beat them up. We beat up Bargnani, they let us body Bosh," West said. "Like, Bosh and Bargnani right now, they would blow this NBA out of the water. They were damn near impossible to guard. I'm serious. The only reason Bargnani didn't have a (successful) career was 'cause the referees let people like me beat him up.

"They were tough, man," he added. "But it was a different NBA then."

He's not wrong. There's probably a lot of guys who were known as soft yesteryear that would feast in today's NBA

You can't even be near a shooter when he's shooting a 3 these days. So two long lanky bois with excellent shots it makes sense.

But to be fair Bosh dominated back then too. Back when he went to MIA sure LeBron and Wade were top 5 NBA players, but he had arguments as being the best young franchise player after them ( Melo and Deron Williams and such had arguments too but he was right in that tier as the best of the non MVPs under 30).

This is a myth. Kevin Love for example didn't have his value increase. Shooting 3s isn't only what makes this era, it's also about being able to guard multiple wing positions. Guys like Bargnani are no longer unicorns for shooting 3s

Surprised by these comments from West who has always been a high BBIQ player.

Bosh—he might be better in this NBA as his strengths towards the end of his career would be quite valuable now, i.e., defending in space, rotations, shoot the three, good BBIQ, etc., but “blow out ifnthe water”? I don’t know about that.

As for Bargnani—no. He wasn’t developed correctly to begin with and that has to be acknowledged, yes, but he was a poor defender who didn’t put enough effort in his rotations and/or lacked the awareness on court, didn’t rebound well, didn’t have a good let alone great motor, wasn’t fiercely competitive. Teams would be putting him in high screen/roll actions and then the chaos of defensive breakdowns would ensue.

From a perspective of players not allowed to be tough and physical like they used to he's spot on

Danilo Gallinari isn't blowing the NBA out of the water so why would Bargnani....Bosh makes more sense though, especially with that 3pt shot he developed late in his career, he's a perfect player for today's NBA.

Bargnani was an awful basketball player. Trading for him ruined the 2013 54 win Knick team. Dude was straight garbage

Bosh would be even better today.

Barg and soft no-defense bigs would still suck.

This notion that some nebulous “tougher players” of yesteryear would “feast” in today’s game is nonsense. It’s currently the most difficult to even get a roster spot in the NBA right now than it has ever been because of the available talent pool. Both Bosh and Bargs would of course still be in the NBA and Bosh might be even more effective, but in genral, to be in the NBA, you have competition from every corner of the globe now.

International talent is everywhere and now African talent is being developed as well. 3 of the current top 10 are internationals, 6 out of the top 20. The reigning two time MVP is an international, and a top 3 Candace for MVP next year (Luka) is an international. In ten years, it’s not inconceivable that 20 of the top 50 players will be internationals.

Domestic population in the U.S. is higher that further enlarged the talent pool.

He's a clown. West and Bargnani's playing days weren't in the 80s, they were very recent, in other words, the same time pool people include when they call the NBA soft. Man is acting like their overlapping playing days were the era of toughness people speak of
