As a Wolves fan who watched him for years, I voted "Other Fan - Slight Negative". He can look really good 1 out of every 5 games or so and give you false hope that he's figured it out, then he disappears for a couple games and plays average a couple games. He's a negative in the sense that he has a max contract and plays like the guy who's coming 3rd off the bench most nights. No defense, and awful shot selection a majority of the time.

*snip*
4th quarter of raptors warriors march 5th. only game with both curry and wiggins. They would have withstood a 37 point game from norman powell, without klay looney and green. Offense was excellent, defense was so so. Wiggins played really well.

He has a lot of value, but to the warriors especially.

Its like out of nowhere talk of Wiggins being a neutral or not that bad of a contract started happening and it just keeps getting repeated. No he is still one of the worst contracts in the league. The only reason he sees any kind of minutes is because of his contract, give this guy the same contract as Jabari Parker, then he would be in the same situation as Parker. Getting bounced from team to team and getting stuck on the bench after 2 weeks with a new team, once that new team realizes the "potential" is just that and the production is crap.

Strong negative is right, I never understood the trade from the Warriors in the first place - they could have had Robert Covington instead (minus Wiggins and the pick) who would have been a perfect fit next to Klay and Curry. Lots of points on a losing team looks ok in the box score (very average efficiency) but Wiggins simply does not help his teams win games.

This is the year he either confirms himself as a loser and his value absolutely tanks or he becomes a neutral value/slight positive value contract. The only reason he's only a slight negative value now is there is still a chance that he is useful to a winning environment.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Obviously every team will rate their assets higher than others, but the gap in value from what I see posted is really surprising. I don’t know if it’s just a vocal minority of fans (from either side) that makes the gap, or chasm in this case, seem so big while the majority are somewhere in the middle.

You can define value however you like. Selecting whether your a Warriors fan or otherwise, in your opinion, what is Wiggins value?

If this is interesting/productive etc. I might do similar for other players/teams. Feel free to throw some names out there in comments

Edit - obviously the thread could turn into fanbase bashing. Don’t do that.

====================================================================================

OP How about adding his salary to show how much he is paid/overpaid.

A.Wiggins AKA Mr. Fantastic Maple Jordan
2019-20 : 44.7% FG, 33.2% 3PT, 70.9% FT.
Career: 44.1% FG, 33.2%, 73.2% FT.

Starting next season for 3 more years: 29.5m, 31.5m, 33.6m (fully guaranteed)

Feb 6 2020 Traded to Golden State (GSW) from Minnesota (MIN) with 2021 1st round pick [top-3 protected, unprotected 2022 1st if not conveyed] and 2021 2nd round pick for D'Angelo Russell, Omari Spellman and Jacob Evans

I thought about putting that info in the OP, but ultimately decided to let people make their own judgements as to how they valued him. I think if I threw salary and advanced stats side by side, we’d likely see a stronger negative push.

A little over a year ago, Chris Paul was a negative contract too. He’s young and athletic plus he plays a premium position. If he looks good with the Warriors, they can get it to neutral, maybe even slightly positive.

Right now. Negative.

He has a strong negative player. Bad player, enormous contract, and has shown about as minimal improvement as you could expect.

There are probably GM's that remember he was the number one rated high school player, and that he jumps really high when there is no one else around him to make any sort of contact with him, so he might have some value to a few GMs, so it's not like they could never find a trade, given how badly some teams are run.

Worth less than chris paul even accounting for their age, even prior to the current season.

Nothing, he absolutely blows.

They have the #2 pick. That's their trade bait.

This is his chance to be an all star. Playing next to the two greatest shooters should open his game up.

I mean the reasonable worst case is that he’s a starter level 3rd option at a position that needed to be filled that came with a good draft pick. It’s not like we could replace him with a clear upgrade if he somehow magically disappeared from the roster.

I voted strong negative that contract is one of the worst in the league. And there’s people having him in a trade package for Giannis lol
The bucks rather have Giannis play out his contract than to take him they already got rid of Jabari they sure is hell ain’t taking another one :noway:

currently his value is negative but I hope that isn't the end of the story. I am hoping that Ron Adams takes him on as a special project to get the max out of him defensively. In the very short sample size with the Warriors I was encouraged by what I saw out of him, now let's see what he looks like when he has Klay and Dray on the defensive side and if he can play more consistently than he has so far in his career. On the offensive side, with Steph and Klay demanding attention, he is going to have more space than he ever had so far in his career with the TWolves where he was the primary focus of the opposition's perimeter defense. I know it's a long shot but the Warriors have never shied away from taking on a player who had a reputation as a basketcase (JaVale and Chriss) and had positive results getting them to buy in to a roll. Hopefully for Warriors' fans Wiggins seizes this opportunity, that not many young underachievers get, and takes another step in his development.

only way he isnt a huge negative is if some team is dumb enough to take a chance and trade for his potential

In his current role, I think he'll be great. Problem is that he's making max money for something you'd pay 15 to 20 million per season for. That and his expectations coming into the league just make him an easy target.
