Seeing the Bucs just destroy the Pack makes me think the Bears might be better than we thought.

the bucs game was probably the bears best performance (which isn't saying much). and the bucs didn't play well. still, there's no team the bears couldn't beat on any given week if they play to their potential and maybe catch a break or two

the bears also lost to the colts, who today had to rally big to get past the bengals. i'm not gonna read too much into that either. i think we know who the bears are after today's game about as much as we did before it

I'm glad the Bears are 5-1 but with the way, the offense is playing their a team ripe to get bounced in their first playoff game. You can't expect the defense to constantly create short field turnovers to help the offense score like we saw the last two weeks.

The offense doesn't look better or more cohesive with Foles. I'm still waiting to see what Foles supposedly brings to it Yes, he'll make an occasional throw and read Trubisky won't but Foles doesn't do it consistently enough and leaves the same plays on the field Mitch did.

Nagy has gone back almost exclusively to inside zone runs which even back in 2018 when the line was solid they didn't block well. Nagy brought in a new offensive line coach, quarterback coach, and offensive coordinator. It's time he swallows his pride and gives up playcalling.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

Fixed that for you.

This was a blowout if the refs don't call that phantom PI on Johnson at the 1 and see the tipped ball on the pick 6.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle 5-1.

i didn't imagine johnson holding the receiver's arm down. you're not "making a play on the ball" as in trying for the INT if one of your arms is devoted to doing that. that said, it was neither blatant nor necessary to breaking up the pass, so the refs could have easily let it go

i think you may be imagining a tipped ball, however. the rotation of the ball certainly didn't change much if it was grazed

the bears got more big breaks than the other team and won as a result. usually the case w/ 2 roughly evenly matched teams. they didn't NEED that last TO to win though, obviously. the 2 other huge TOs would likely have been enough

I think this might be true, but I don't think that's worth complaining about.

To start the season, only some die hard Bears fans had the Bears as a playoff team, no one in the media had them there. Now our complaint is that they're likely to significantly exceed expectations by making the playoffs, but might not get far once there?

Well, even if that ends up being true, so what? Still a better season than we had reason to expect going in, and if they get in, they absolutely have a chance of playing well and winning a game. I mean, what are their superbowl winning odds right now? 3-5%? That's about 3-5% more than I thought they were when the year started.

True. Plus they missed the PI on Allen Robinson near the goal line early in the game. Even the announcers remarked the DB got there early.

defenders regularly get there a split second early...sometimes it gets called, sometimes it doesn't. often depends on the ref's angle

Yeah, that was a missed call, especially because he went through Robinson's head when he got there early, but it wasn't egregiously early. The call only looks especially bad given the "defenseless" call on a shoulder to shoulder contact and the PI called against the Bears which were also both bad calls IMO. That second pass interference was just not pass interference at all.

That was a rough set of calls that were all iffy and all went against the Bears. I don't really call any questionable ones that should have gone the other way, but there might have been one somewhere.

Nah, when this pass rush gets goin, great QBs look like ****. Look at what happened to GB today. They folded when they got hit with adversity.

remember the very first game of the mack era? they knocked rodgers out of the game and he still came back and carved 'em up

12-4 that season and they rolled through him later in the season.

there was a ridiculous roughing the passer called on the panthers late, but i'm not sure how consequential it was

irrelevant to conversation

yet he didn't look like ****. he looked like a good QB facing a great defense, leading a bad team on the road against a very good team and having them tied going into the 4th quarter

Clean hit negates an INT

Can't find video of the pick 6 but multiple people saw it hit Nichols hand, it's not important because I'm just arguing with dice on the internet but that was another massive play that could have easily went our way.

Most sportsbooks had the Bears as an 8-8.5 win team to begin the season. Now those numbers don't scream playoff team but it also isn't out of the realm of possibility you pick up a couple of extra wins and now you're probably in the playoffs.

The defense last year was good enough to make the playoffs it was the offense that didn't hold up it's end. With adding new offensive coaches getting two tight ends, drafting a receiver and getting Foles should mean the offense gets better it hasn't.

Do you think the offense is good enough right now to win a playoff game? Remember the defense played well against the Eagles in the 2018 playoffs and they still got bounced and this offense is considerably worse than in 2018.

Maybe the Packers aren’t as good as we thought they were though. The point differential between the 2 teams is only 11 points now, and Rodgers had a game where he had QBR of 35 while the Packers lost by 28.

I don’t think the Bears are a great team but any means, but we might be a good team with extreme flaws.

Is Pederson going to call plays? Will the Bears get that Eagles offensive line? Foles had a nice hot streak he's never been able to replicate again. Has Foles looked anything close to that here or in Jacksonville?

He's 3-1 with a W over the GOAT and one of the greatest 4th quarter comebacks in the history of the franchise.

Foles literally beat us in the playoffs the next year and was an Alshon tipped INT away from going to the NFC Championship.
