Report: Bulls Intent On Moving Up; Desire Top 2 Pick

Post#1 » by OrangeBlueSkies » Mon Oct 19, 2020 12:59 pm

Minnesota and Golden State, the two franchises that partook in a deadline trade that paired D’Angelo Russell with close friend , Karl Anthony Towns, both landed the top picks and are sitting atop the draft, waiting on the best offer that comes their way.

Things are about to get very interesting, especially with the unknown cap situation.

Speaking on the latest Bulls Talk Podcast with K.C. Johnson, Tom Haberstroh said he’s expecting Karnišovas to pursue a move up in his first draft as executive vice president of basketball operations. “I think [Karnišovas] might move up, because I think No. 1 with Minnesota and No. 2 (with Golden State) is going to be readily available,” Haberstroh said. “I would be surprised if you didn’t see Charlotte (at No. 3) or Chicago move up in the draft.”

For now, there is a leaguewide moratorium on transactions while the NBA and NBPA hammer out modifications to the CBA in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic-affected 2019-20 season. But come draft night, Haberstroh thinks the floodgates could open. “I also just think people are going to be more trigger-happy, make some deals because they’ve been so far away, so far removed from real NBA stuff that I do think there’s going to be a circus on draft night with the No. 1 pick,” he said on the podcast. “Top five I just think it’s just going to be all hands on deck.”

Both GSW and MIN have made it known that they want win now players and not just to move down in the draft and pick up future draft capital.

For the Bulls, there is only Zach LaVine that might fit the criteria depending on how they evaluate his impact on the court.

For Charlotte, I don’t think there really is anyone right now on that roster that fits what they are looking for.

If I’m the Bulls, I wouldn’t trade LaVine unless I knew he wasn’t interested in re-signing 2 years from now.

Imo it wouldnt take much on paper for gsw to consider a move down to 4 or 5 if there are no decent trade out rather than down offers esp if Edwards goes 1st.
But i dont believe the offers to trade down but remain in lottery necessarily enough for them to pass on their top target with cha chi cle all being in the mix for a mobile center or playmaking wing as well.

Personally, I would heavily consider accepting #4 and Lauri Markkanan for #1, Omari Spellman, and Jacob Evans.

Keep in mind the sourcing there is pretty soft (the person is openly speculating), but my guess is that Golden State and Minnesota would both be interested in a future first, and the conversations would center around the protections.

Markkanen seems like a perfect candidate. Both Warriors and Twolves could use a guy like that. And Bulls don't really want to pay him.

They could do it pretty cheap though sitting at 4. I don't even think Bulls fans like their current frontcourt either or would be sad to lose one of them.

Chicago also has Otto Porter to trade if he exercises his option.

This screams “Lauri’s out.” I’m in on #1 and end of bench players for #4 and Markanen.

Towns
Markanen
Culver
Beasley
Russell

#4
MLE
Okogie
Juancho
Layman
Reid
McLaughlin

On paper, a decent 40+ win team?

I'm not sure how those quotes equal "CHI intent on moving up", but it sounds like they could be interested in it. I hope LaVine isn't on the table to move up from 4 in this draft.

On second thought, I’d also be interested in a reunion with Zach. I’m comfortable with Juancho as a starting 4 and love the offensive possibilities of a Zach and DLo backcourt. Interchangeable playmakers and off ball threats. Explosive offensive firepower. Defense would be like Swiss cheese, but you’d never be out of a game.

Trading LaVine and #4 to move up in this weak draft is an awful move for the Bulls. There isn’t a Zion, Ja, Luka, Ayton or even Trae Young level of talent/hype to be had there.

I may be amenable to trading Lauri to move up, but that would be selling low on him.

Agreed, I don't want to trade either of them to move up in this draft. Staying at 4 would be perfectly fine with me.

Markkanen would a nice get for GSW if they don't have to give up assets.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off
