Really? If the Raptors don't re-sign FVV, Giannis said he will not come to Toronto? Do you have a source for this?

My assumption would be that Giannis would sign (or re-sign?) with the team that has the best chances of winning a championship, while paying him a boatload of money.

A team that has the best chance of winning a championship is a team spending money. Giannis was pissed they let brogdon walk. That’s a fact. He will have no interest in any team that lets championship pieces walk rather then going well into the luxury tax.

Giannis needs a CP3 to come in and shake it up...Bledsoe, Hill etc are not cutting it...The whole team got exposed two years in a row now...Bucks owners too cheap and probably won’t go for that trade...if Giannis is smart he should not even waste this year and ask for a trade!

Also regarding Freddy...this is a guy who hustles hard on defense making life difficult for the other star pgs of the league (Steph Curry 2019, Kemba Walker 2020 etc)...also he has a good 3 point shot especially when open or in transition and he can assist on a number of plays especially involving Siakam...4 yrs 80 million is reasonable...now if he can take a few charges like Lowry the bull...he can certainly impact us winning for the next few yrs!

47-135 in the Boston series for a whopping 35%. Dont care whatever advanced stats get thrown at me here. When you shoot the ball that much, and fail that many times, you have shat the bed.

And yes, more than one player can **** the bed.

Also in the words of Bargani, its basketball. Not rebound ball. Or PER ball. Or VORP ball.

Lol. Ok. Seriously. That's a lot of money.

So basically you are saying he shat the bed based on his shooting percentage in one playoff series. Go check Kemba’s numbers with FVV guarding him.

We don’t win the chip with out him. Period.

There are not many high leverage 3/D role players out there that can deliver the way he has.

Makes me so sad that our own fan base cannot appreciate what we have.

Pipe down man - I’m sure a lot of Raptors fans want everyone from the championship squad to stay and to huddle around a camp fire and sing koombaya but Fred is a 5’11 guard who can only shoot and play defense. He’s not a playmaker or someone who can get to the rim and draw fouls. He is replaceable will command way too much. We have an opportunity to be a better team than last year and throwing the brinks truck at Fred ain’t it

Pipe down? This is a forum where we can debate the pros and cons of players. I haven't said anything offensive. Let's keep it respectful.

It’s not our money and just based on Freddy hitting those 3 point bombs and playing excellent defense starting with game 4 in the Milwaukee series and then in the NBA finals...we definitely don’t win that chip without him either...Lowry got a nice extension coming off that championship too! Pay the man!

Let MLSE sign good players and go over the luxury tax...if they want a serious championship contending team yr after yr then that’s what you gotta do...maybe we can get a superstar to actually come and sign here...also some of these players could be used as trade bait down the road as well.

How much of that was because of the attention Kawhi got and not Fred alone! Obviously seeing fromthis years playoff results and Fred stinking it up in the Boston series, i think alot of Fred’s production has to do with true stars in Kawhi and Lowry garnering the opposing teams attention. Once Lowry leaves or decline, Fred will be seen as a glorified overpaid bench player

So next offseason I have Raps salaries at approx. 77 mil after extending OG upwards of 15 mil and having Fred locked up at 22/. That means there is 32 mil for a max slot. After that we have the MLE, BAE, Vet min and we can go over the cap to resign Lowry and Ibaka. That means we better have two picks this year and two next for 4 minimum salaries. I did not include Watson in this because they may not be able to afford him at Matt Thomas money. Norm won't go for the MLE so looks like g'bye.

This is why I think we are trading down in this draft unless we love someone and we trade up for them. Second rounders will be less on the cap and there is a lot of value there in this draft.

Norm gets traded too to make room

You think Serge will take a 1 year deal? That would be nice but I doubt it

4/80 for Fred is pretty reasonable. Sure his playmaking is not where we'd like it to be, but it's still better than most 3-and-D two-guards' playmaking.

You can't let him walk unless the competing offer is something truly ridiculous. We obviously need him, and the Raps' reputation would take a decent hit at the worst possible time since he's one of the guys that is held up as an example of our organization's culture and excellence.

how dare you even think to claim that a 17/6 NBA champion, runner-up 6th man and runner up finals MVP is a good player worth retaining?

The nerve.

Yea...I mean those rainbow threes in the Finals were against Draymond and Curry being right in his face...pressure packed 4th quarter bombs...this guy’s got heart in clutch moments as well! He even got an NBA Finals MVP vote from Hubie Brown! I mean 20 mill a yr is pretty reasonable for a guy who plays hard on both ends...17/6 with 2 steals a game?! Unless we are signing some other pg with that kinda production?

This is why I value this board. I came here ranting the deal was too rich for my liking but several posters have made very valid arguments against this.

As long as front office builds a competitor, I'm down

Not related to the thread but I definitely think they should extend OG this offseason instead of waiting, seems like a prime breakout year for him

I can see Serge getting a 3 year deal from another team.

This whole thread reads like a bunch of millennials crying about not being able to afford houses.

“That house went for way more than it’s worth!”

“Ha, that guy overpaid by a $100k, stupid sucka”

Meanwhile, they sit in their parents basement bragging to their friends about how ahead of the game they are in one breath, and crying about not having nice things in the other.

Bottom line, FVV is worth what the market says he’s worth, and Masai will decide if he wants to buy it... I believe he will, because unlike some of the short sighted posters in this thread, he understands the true value of a guy like FVV.
