Oladipo and McDermott could be had for Green, Kuzma, Bradley, pick 28.
McDermott could be had for pick 28 and salary filler (McGee, Cook)
Oladipo could be had for Green, Kuzma, Bradley
PG: Caruso | Rondo
SG: Oladipo | KCP
SF: LeBron | McDermott
PF: Davis | Markieff
C : Howard | Cousins
I would start KCP and Dipo in that hypothetical lineup, and it would obviously be an upgrade over our playoff starting lineup.
The question is how much can we resign KCP and Rondo using their birds rights (after resigning AD) while still remaining under the tax apron and qualifying for the full MLE?
Also, from what I've read, retaining Rondo would require giving him over a 1 year deal as we only have early bird rights, so we are talking about a contract that we might need to dump in 2021 while attaching assets. But regardless, I'm ok with keeping KCP for a one year deal and Rondo for whatever deal that gets the job done using bird rights, but I believe if we are over the tax we will not get the full MLE, so how much they get paid plus ADs pay bump and the difference in Dipo/Mcdermot's contracts vs our outpu tcould lead to us only having the BAE and no MLE, correct?
I ask because retaining Dwight and Markeif (or signing replacements with similar quality )becomes essential if Mcgee and Kuz are gone, and I'm not sure the BAE is enough to get the job done.
KCP/Oladipo/Bron/AD/Dwight is an upgrade over our starting 5 for this year. Rondo and Caruso showed they are a capable pair of backup guards. The bench obviously downgrades with Mcdermott/Markief instead of Kuz/Markief in those roles, but I believe that downgrade is acceptable. Same as the Dwight/vet min center vs Dwight/Mcgee center duo. But this only works if we could retain Dwight and Markief or find replacements with the same quality, which becomes very difficult to do if we don't have the full MLE to work with.
If we do have the full FME after all this, I'm all for it. Even a 3 and D version of Dipo is enough of an upgrade to make up for the bench downgrades, and Kuz realistically has to go anyways due to him being up for an extension. one of Dwight or Mcgee is perfectly fine for what we need from that position. We should be able to find a second quality big to let AD not play center during the RS for the minimum, whether it's cousins, a ring chaser, or an undervalued young big looking to up their value.
We should be able to find enough ring chasing options to add depth all around and THT should be ready for a bigger reserve role, but it leaves very little room for error.
As long as we aren't expecting Dipo to be the third head in a big three and expecting him to be an upgraded version of Danny Green, this team, if possible to assemble, is a good combination of retooling and retention of valuable pieces.
