If trading for Oladipo would still allow us to use our MLE or not prohibit from still trading for Bogdan, I'd be all for that. Oladipo appears to be a guy just like Giannis, a gym rat that doesn't need a big city. Wonder if the plan is to put him at the 1.

Had espn on now for Stephen A and Max talking Giannis. Max probably had the best and most informed comments on the topic of anyone I've see in these type of roles. Pointing out how bigs need to have a G type guy close to their level to win a title, giving tons of examples like Shaq, Kareem, AD, etc. And then about how they cheaped out on Brogdon, not so much in regards to losing Brogdon but in that if you had the contract to match so you can make trades easier but since they cheaped out they'd now have to gut their team to get that other player they need. Seems rare to me that jabronis like this actually understand the cap rules. But I've generally always liked Max, disappointed he took this job, but hey it's big money so can't blame him.
Stephen A of course says just trade him now.

Fwiw, Simmons & Lowe think Harris is in-line for $15m/yr, same with Bertans. All it takes is one team so can't say I disagree.

Never will understand why people on this board value DDV so much. He's not good. Overvaluing guys like him and then sitting on your hands scared to trade him is what would ultimately force Giannis to leave.
I mostly agree with this. I don't think DDV is bad but he's not the kind of dude you worry about losing.

Do we really know that? He's always been rumored to want to leave for Miami.

I actually disagree. We should be taking calculated risks, but we are not in a Michael Redd-era position where you can afford to take a massive risk and just hope you hit. Because the impacts of missing are far, far more severe.

"Calculated" risks. Who's doing the calculating? The Owners, the GM, the Coach?

The meddling-owners factor is what makes me think there could be talks serious enough that Lowe is hearing off-the-record whispers.
Herb Simon doesn't seem like a guy who would entertain giving an injury-prone Oladipo a max deal either. The Bucks are in a different position considering our desperation to persuade Giannis to stay.

“I really believe when Herb talked to the owner of Milwaukee (Marc Lasry, co-owner of the Bucks) and they had a very open and honest discussion [about Brogdon], both of them said ‘Let’s make this deal,’” Pritchard explained on Monday. “At the time, it went from 10 percent to 90 percent on that call.
“That’s something that I had never seen before in my life, but you can see how Herb has been so successful. He wants win-win deals. He was all about how to make this a win-win deal, something that Milwaukee can come away feeling good about, when they looked to their future, with the 1st round pick and two second (round selections).”

I'd rather have DDV than Oladipo straight up. Not even a question imo.

The Brogdon stuff was interesting. Even if they didn't want him long term, he would be a $20 mil trade piece now, since you have to match salaries, for say a deal for Bradley Beal.

This is from an ESPN article that Wiretap quoted on Dipo (and I concure with it):
"I think it's unlikely Oladipo gets traded because of how weird his past year has been," said Tim Bontemps on The Hoop Collective Podcast. "Both coming back from the injury, and frankly, not being very good after coming back from the injury.
"From talking to people around the league, I don't think his value is nearly as high as his name brand would suggest at the moment. And I think it's more likely that the Pacers go into the season and either hope he plays really well and they do great and he decides to stay. Or that he plays better and they maybe trade him later, when his value goes up soon."

If you think you’ll be getting 2018 Oladipo then of course you trade DDV, but if you get the 2020 Oladipo you’ve lost the only young tradeable asset on the team.

It makes sense, though there's probably just as much chance if not more that he isn't able to rebuild his value and you end up losing him for nothing or at least lose him for less. I wouldn't blame them at all for not wanting to sell low, but it very well could get lower.

Exactly. If they think he can rebuild his value, they should keep him to do that, but right now - why would anyone give much for him? He's only had 1 great year, and he's done nothing good since then.

Always a matter of what you're getting back, but if I'm Indy, I'd look around for the offer I liked best and take it (unless it's negative value, of course). Right now the worst case scenario is 2021 cap space, so the goal is don't make it worse than that.

How Herb Simon values Oladipo is the main variable I'm curious about.
"He wants win-win deals" per his POBO.
The Pacers are a fringe playoff team that's about to bring in a new coach.
Seems plausible that Herb's looking for a graceful offramp to avoid cantankerous negotiations and season-long trade chatter for a guy that's risky at best to give a big long term deal to.

If I'm the Pacers then I'm calling up every single team with a Top-10 pick and offering Dipo straight up. Then if no one bites, I'm looking at the first team that's giving me a young prospect on a rookie deal plus a 1st of any kind. I get holding out hope on him recouping some value but now that he (allegedly) wants out of Indiana, you basically just get what you can for him from some team like the Knicks and sell them on the idea that he'll sign with a big market franchise.

I could see Herb Simon being cash-conscious during a pandemic.
That seems more likely than them committing long term to Oladipo.
Pacers also need to pay guys like Justin Holiday as well:

That seems more likely than them committing long term to Oladipo.
Pacers also need to pay guys like Justin Holiday as well:
They signed him to a 1-year deal last summer for $4.8 million to the mid-level exception, but a multi-year deal will be required to retain him.
It’s expected to be a “strong market” for Holiday but the Pacers will have the first shot at securing his services. He passed on a more lucrative deal from the Chicago Bulls, who'd traded him twice already, in search of a better basketball culture and stability.'
The Pacers are undergoing significant offseason changes. They're in the process of hiring a coach to replace Nate McMillan and some players aren't expected to return.
