HotStove questions from ESPN

Post#1 » by loserX » Wed Oct 21, 2020 7:03 pm

Saw this on ESPN:

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30155889/nba-free-agency-trade-debate-intriguing-teams-top-targets-bold-predictions

And while their answers are fine (will put in spoiler tags for anyone interested), I'm more curious to hear what this board thinks!

Which free agent do you find most intriguing?

Spoiler:
ESPN: Anthony Davis, Fred Van Vleet (2), Gallinari, Dragic

Which potential trade target are you watching?

Spoiler:
ESPN: Chris Paul, Jrue Holiday (3), whomever the Bucks target

Which team are you watching most closely this offseason?

Spoiler:
ESPN: Bucks, Rockets, Warriors (3)

Which team has the most desirable coaching job that's still open?

Spoiler:
ESPN: Pelicans (3), Rockets (2)

What's your bold offseason prediction?

Spoiler:
ESPN:
- both Paul and Westbrook are traded again
- Paul at least starts the season in OKC
- Timberwolves and Warriors will each trade their top pick
- the Kings make more trades than any other team
- Clippers will make a splashy move

What do you guys think about these questions?

Guessing we all have the same answer for the most desirable open coaching position.

Which free agent do you find most intriguing?

Davis Bertans and Joe Harris.

Which potential trade target are you watching?

Harden/Westbrook.

With SGA being hired I expect them to retain Holiday.

Which team are you watching most closely this offseason?

Pacers, Bulls, Timberwolves, Warriors

Which team has the most desirable coaching job that's still open?

I thought the most desierable was the Pacers.

What's your bold offseason prediction?

It will be a quiet off-season after all the coaches changes.

Which is unfortunate because I don't think that position is desirable.

Shame on me for forgetting that job was open. Especially considering it's actually kind of a desirable one for certain candidates given I assume the idea is to grow with the team.

And they have a very long leash with coaches. Both Brooks and Donovan got much longer runs than I think they get almost anywhere else. You either get a pretty good roster led by the point guard of a generation or you get low expectations and the chance to help shape the roster.

I get Houston gives you Harden and if you are an older coach I think you go there and hope the new guy can work some miracles with no assets and no financial flexibility, but 50 or younger I think I'm taking that Thunder job given my choice.

Which free agent do you find most intriguing?

I'm going to go with Joe Harris. I suspect he ends up right back in Brooklyn, but I'm very curious to see if there's a ripple effect there on the rest of the roster. That is a very expensive team even without him, and just because ownership can afford to shell out that money doesn't mean they are excited about it.

Which potential trade target are you watching?

Ariza. Portland desperately needs to upgrade their forwards if they're going to improve, and Ariza (or possibly Whiteside S&T) are their best routes for matching salary in getting someone who can help now.

Which team are you watching most closely this offseason?

The Bulls. They are a very odd mix and I honestly have almost zero idea what direction they're going to go this year. (Hiring a coach with a winning NBA record but developmental college experience didn't clear things up much either.) If it's young, they have to move...er...Young, and possibly others. If it's win-now, guys like Markkanen or WCJ could be shipped out.

Which team has the most desirable coaching job that's still open?

Tougher than I thought. Is Fertitta going to go big or go cheap? Are the Thunder going to start a teardown, or stay afloat for another year?

What's your bold offseason prediction?

I'm so bad at these lol. I don't know if it's bold, but I'll say the Spurs *don't* tear it all down just yet after all.
