Current Roster and Modern Offense?

Post#1 » by Pacercoltboiler » Wed Oct 21, 2020 8:16 pm

I know it is too early to tell, but the new coach will probably try to play Myles and Domas together. I think this is a good idea because they are two of our better players. That would mean that Warren goes back to the 3. It also sounds like Oladipo is onboard with the new coach, and we have a good shot at keeping him. That makes the lineup Brogden, Oladipo, Warren, Domas, and Myles. I was wondering how such a lineup could be utilized in the current 3pt bombs away league. Would that lineup be able to jack up threes and play defense?

time will tell but only Sabonis hasn't shown a great 3 point shot and he played outside in OKC. sure sounds like Bjorngren impressed the front office with his plan to use that lineup.

"Very disruptive. Very aggressive style," Bjorkgren said about what his offenses and defenses will look like when next season starts. "We'll be a fun team to watch. You're going to see a lot of movement on both sides of the ball. You're going to see weakside movement on the offensive end. You're going to see different players handling the ball and pushing it up the floor. We want to look for more possessions. We want to utilize the free throw line getting to the rim. Utilize that 3-point line."

Sounds like a complete change from the McMillan offense. Valuing points per possession. Weak side movement? Ball movement? What a crazy concept.

I love it.

With all the injuries and such from last season, we didn't get to see that lineup a ton. Looking forward to it.

The ideas are great. The problem may be whether the players are capable of that style of play, and will they subscribe to it.

Players like McDermott, Brogdon and Sabonis certainly understand the ideas behind player movement and ball movement, and have the BB IQ to carry it out. The Holiday brothers probably "get it" as well. But what about players like Turner? Does he have the understanding of that sort of offensive to actually carry it out? I don't doubt his willingness, but I wonder about his understanding of the principles behind it. Where to move. When to move. How to find open team mates and get them the ball. He certainly will have to learn to be a much better screener. This sounds like the sort of offense that calls for making quick decisions. Can he do that? I think that may take some time.

To your point if we see a shortened training camp when we return there are sure to be some bumps in the road along the way.

That's a really good point. These are really challenging times to put in new concepts. It will be interesting to see how quickly (and how well) the team adapts.

Heck, we haven't even touched on the changes coming to the defensive side of the court. This is gonna be interesting and (hopefully) exciting.

Agree. I liked ol Burke and appreciate everything he has done. I know that everyone on here wanted an offensive change (no arguments). But I'm excited to see some fresh, new defensive concepts. Burke was great for a long time, but in the end he was about as stubborn as my wife and wouldn't change or adapt to anything.

we can't be sure how much of the stubbornness was Burke and how much was McMillan, but I agree that it wasn't just the offense that was inflexible.

It doesn't sound like Burke is going to be retained anyway

Didn't Nate mention that he wants his assistants to be mini head coaches, instead of specialists?

Burke has been a specialist but I'm not assuming he can't be a generalist. I do want diversity on the staff though.
