Wade left because he wanted to get paid and then he came back to retire with the Heat and helped convince Jimmy to go to the Heat.
Chris Quinn, Anthony Carter, Malik Allen are former Heat players and are all now assistant coaches with the Heat.
Shane Battier and Alonzo Mourning are in the Heat FO.
Glen Rice is a Scout/Team Ambassador.
Yeah, here is what Wade said after he got offered 10 million..... didn't he get like 50 mill guaranteed and Denver offered even more?
“At the end of the day, I didn’t hear from the guy I needed to. I expressed this to him later. That right there hurt me. It showed me… it was time to remove myself from the situation…. It’s a business. But I’m human as well. I was waiting for him to step up and meet me, call me, do something and it just never happened. That’s not the Pat I know. You can find me quicker than anybody. You want to be wanted. Everyone wants to be wanted. I didn’t feel like I was wanted from the person I wanted to be wanted from…. I was waiting for him to step up and meet me somewhere. Call me. Do something. It just never happened. That’s not Pat. That’s not the Pat I know.”
Kinda weird it blew up so quickly don't you think? Apparently Wade didn't even get a call after 13 years and titles.
You'll notice he mentions that's not the Pat he knows. He still went back and finished his career with the Heat and actively helped them land Jimmy.
He went back and retired in their jersey. Guess what, we have a player that accused the medical staff of trying of nearly killing him and abandoning him and then calling it the flu, followed by a terrible contract break down and quick dump after a low ball offer...... and Deng still retired a Bull........
And we had Pete Myers, Randy Brown and John Paxson in the org forever with Grant and Pip as advisors. Teams have former players.
Maybe Wade pointed Butler toward the heat. IDK. They were close. But Jimmy didn't really have a lot of options. It was a bit of a low for him and he wanted his own team. Not a lot of people were looking to build around Jimmy and Philly wouldn't throw him the fifth year.
I just don't the right word for Riley is beloved. He's much more respected for the greatness and excellence and culture. He's much more of a Bill Bellicheck. That's all I was trying to say. I think guys like Pop, Busse and such are beloved.
