I was a member of "House Knicks" for several years, so out of habit come and have a look sometimes. And you have better thread on president elections than Current Affairs :)

Did I say "lead them"? I said "helped". KP and THJ being on the team certainly helped their playoffs push and added wins. How many wins did DSJ add so far?

The Knicks got 3 things in that trade, so far 2 of them have been busts (cap space and DSJ), and two "average" 20th picks don't add as much value as KP and THJ just added to the Mavs, and potentially can still add in the next 4 years.

Once again, I think that giving the max to KP was bad, even before the Mavs decided to give him that contract, but it doesn't mean the trade itself is good or bad.

I said "lead them" because with his contract, he should not be a secondary type player on that team and he is. A max contract comes with max responsibility.

Dallas is extremely fortunate that Luka is that good because things would be looking very different if he wasn't. This is not to say that KP is a scrub, but I would be pissed off if we didn't pull the trigger and he was still here. It would be another situation where we paid top dollar for an injury-prone, yet talented player while still having that crappy THJr contract.

Exactly! I don’t know if people are taking crazy pills, but trading Porzingis was the smartest move we could have made. Winning in today’s league requires getting the most value with your cap space. Having a dead weight max contract on your books GUARANTEES you will never win a chip.

It’s like people are forgetting what happened with STAT. If we don’t sign STAT to that max contract we most likely have a chip cause we could of signed a max player like CP3 to go with Melo.

The Mavs had a chance to build a great team around Luka while Luka is still on a rookie deal and they floundered that chance with that KP deal. Even if they gave up nothing in the deal, the Mavs now have one of the worst contracts in the league, AND the don’t even have the picks to get rid of him. Unless KP comes back and plays in some meaningful games (I.e. playoffs) the Mavs definitely lost that trade.

Once again... a trade isn’t a signing. The Mavs didn’t lose the trade, they gave a bad contract. Two different things. You can make a good trade and then a bad signing. Anyway, the Mavs still probably think KP is more valuable than 2 late picks, like most playoffs teams. At least, he’s an impactful player when he plays, unlike someone like Wiggins. Two “late” picks don’t have much value.

Heck even THJ turned out to be a good starter that helped the Mavs make the playoffs.

How did the Knicks win the TRADE, when they still have nothing to show from it? KP had value. The value the Knicks got in exchange was dependant on cap space (bust), DSJ (bust) and two picks they thought could be mid 1st round (with Doncic’s development, it looks like they’ll be closer to 20). At best, no one won the trade.

So if the season starts late December, would KP play? If not that could be a positive for our 2021 pick
