I'm more concerned about how this could hurt teams like ours who are making big decisions. Will our rookie suffer? Will we have injuries? Does this screw up our plans like talking trades, making deals, etc.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

GM's I've heard suggested this will not hurt trades ... could actually help teams that wanna deal. Preparedness for the draft and miscellaneous free agency opportunities will vary franchise to franchise. Biggest challenge is around smaller window to host prospects and more restrictive.
Naturally it's be nice to have a traditional camp and pre-season, but either way, coaches need to have a good plan and team veterans need to step up. Grand opportunity for KAT and DLo from Day1.
Team depth will be huge as ever when it comes to injuries/conditioning.

Bobby Marks on the New ESPN Insider Free Agency write up said Beasley will command somewhere between 12-14 million per year extension and Jmac is a minimum end of rotation guy.

And? We are supposed to care what Bobby has to say?
Jmac is in my opinion one of the most talented and most refined all around skill load basketball players this team has. He doesn't get to tower over anyone, he's got to be almost perfect to be in this league at his size at all and yet the more minutes you give him the more he thrives at this level. That is how you should know they belong.
The team has Dlo who is a silky smooth basketball player.
The Team has Towns who is a rare combination of size/atheltics/skills.
After those two, I position Jmac in third. Go ahead and try to claim someone else on the team is a better basketball player right now. They aren't.
As much as I have pushed for Beasley to get paid and stay here, and generally can't be happier with his shooting and work ethic...he's not as well rounded skilled as Jmac is. Beasley can be a really good SG for this team. I think Jmac could lock down a backup PG job on most teams and could start on more than a few. Let's not pretend just anyone can play the PG role well. The Mavericks could have used someone like him in the recent playoffs as a starter. But I'm typically talking to a bunch of blank walls about that who see nothing but former draft pick history and height issues. Even though all the height gifted choices for this roster can't maintain a lick of defense to date.
Everyone else is a work in progress on this roster yet or will always be limited roles players because they can't figure certain things out yet. End of bench that. Josh Okogie, please stand up this year and show us more refined skill and use that experience now. He's our only hope.

First, KCP is not worth full MLE. Second, we have Culver and Okogie who play same position.

what...KCP is better than both of those guys. 46% 2 pt fg and 38% 3pt fg this yr..solid, tenacious defender who can shoot 3 and attack the rim. he was getting paid 18 mil/yr before going to the lakers.

Bobby Mark is a former NBA GM so his opinion does carry weight

KCP was massively overpaid in the past, but it does not mean that he lived up any expectations. He is career averages are 11ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.6apg, on 42% FG, 35% 3PT, 1.1spg. He is a solid defender, but again defensively he is not much better than Culver and Okogie. He is not worth full MLE. Also he is better suited as PoA defender but we need a two big wings.

I think KCP is worth the mid-level. He’s just hitting his stride.

I am fairly certain Joe Harris will be the top target for Minnesota.

This. I'd almost say Bertans should be the #1 target.

This isn't an easy swap out for Beasley for just anyone.
Joe Harris is a great shooter, but he's not anywhere near the gamer that Beasley has shown to be.
Case in point. As soon as Beasley was given 30+mpg and starting role, he became a 20 PPG/5 RPG capable player. But Joe Harris has averaged over 30mpg for the past two seasons and he's only averaging 14 PPG/4 RPG. Harris also is not as good at drawing FT shots or making FT shots. Beasley will get open more, take more shots, draw more fouls, rebound more = a more extreme player.
Yet Joe Harris got 145 starts the past two seasons. That's what was wrong in Denver and why Beasley didn't sign there. He deserves to start somewhere and this team should consider itself lucky to have him. If losing him and replacing with someone like Harris, fine. But others will have to pick up that slack that Beasley could have added.

One point of contention is that Joe Harris is in the top tier of people who “get open more”, his ability to move off of the ball is extraordinary. Not discounting Beasley, but that one skillset is something that Harris is absurd at, dude seems to always get open.
Ideally, I would prefer to have both Beasley and Harris.

According to people here 6'3 is too short to play defense and that age(29)/injury issue is not something this team needs to spend money on. Wolves would be lucky to get 60 games out of him. He averages 1.8 assists with 30 minutes so he's not creating for anyone, and he's only taking 4 3pt shots a game at 36% lately. I imagine if you could find him 30 minutes he would give the Wolves 12 pts/2/2. Maybe 15ppg if you could give him 17 FGA.
KCP is more interesting to me because of how you could expect more from say only 22 mins. But it's not a big difference other than you likely get more games from him.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
