Watching the first few months of that season there was no way on this earth you could convince me that 5 years later he would still be performing on such an incredibly high level. That looked to be the beginning of a decline, especially because we have seen back issues derail so many careers and he already had a ton of miles on him. It’s amazing that we are here today and he’s still that dude

This is actually insane. It's a night and day difference looking at how athletics his stance is. He'd always been more of an upright driver in his younger days. Now his technique is so much more refined. It's a big reason why he's managed to maintain so much efficacy, because he had SO MUCH fat left to trim off his game. And kudos to him for actually working thru it.

Reminds me of that post somebody made in November 2014 declaring Lebron to be done, somebody has the quote in their sig. As you said it easily could have ended his career but here we are 6 years, 2 rings/FMVPs later and he's still the best player in the game, with those back issues just a blip.

I remember at the time just thinking “damn, he’s going back to Cleveland and now this back stuff pops up, going to be hard to win one for the Cavs and that’s always going to go down as a hole on the resume’ to some people.” I had visions of him eventually laying down on the floor when he was out of the game rather than sitting on the bench, ala late career Bird or Nash. But nah. Wins a chip in Cleveland, then leaves and wins again with a completely different franchise too lol. I absolutely would not have believed this in early 2015. It’s really remarkable.

Yupppp I resigned myself to this being his late career Bird arc. He doesn't get enough credit for avoiding that. Same thing with this groin. Idk how he's doing this LMAO. Just pure belief in himself

I would take 1977 Kareem over him, not a huge gap but it's clear. 1987 Magic is also close but probably him too.

Looking at some vids of recent seasons, I'm posting these just to kill the myth that some try to pass off as truth about Lebron not having any finesse/shake & bake to his game

Anyone that says LeBron doesn't have finesse is crazy. Hes got some of the best body control I've seen and his handle is great for his size. That said, because hes so powerful and fast and huge he's not as quick with his moves as a Kobe, for instance. But blending his wiggle with his speed and power makes him unstoppable.

Perhaps because LeBron's physical build wasn't that different to Michael and Kobe's when he came into the league - I think he was 6'7, 240 lbs - people thought it was fair game to compare their playing styles and continued to do so over the years. However, LeBron eventually developed into a completely different physical profile, so comparing his playing style to shiftier guards doesn't make total sense to me. Does he have more finesse than people give him credit for? Definitely. Should he be expected to be as agile as Michael and Kobe, juking around people and shooting off screens for jump shots? I don't think so. He's three inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than those guys.

Even as a rookie LeBron was compared physically more to Magic Johnson or Karl Malone. He was 245 lbs at the draft as an 18 year old, I believe both Kobe and Jordan were below 200 lbs as rookies and never approached LeBron's rookie build even at their physically biggest.

His comparisons to Jordan were never based on playstyle more about the hype surrounding him. One of the things I liked about LeBron very early on is that he wasn't trying to be a Jordan 2.0 as a lot early 2000s stars were trying to be, Kobe, T-Mac, Vince Carter.

Jordan was Jordan he couldn't be imitated without looking like a lesser version (Kobe paid the price for that), LeBron has been his own player since day one.

Ok? 1996 Jordan led a 72 win team but I think it's very clear that 1990 Jordan on a 55 team was the better player. Team win totals don't affect how impactful a player is.

Also btw the '71 Bucks were a 66 win team, not 69.

i was talking at full strength, 71 bucks were actualy 71 win, 72 bucks 69 despite everyone not named kareem getting significantly worse.

Kareem didn't play for the Lakers in 72 though?

Pretty sure nobody thinks 2020 is LeBron's overall peak.

If Rondo forces Clippers to give him Full MLE, Lakers would have to retire his jersey
