I'm assuming we'd have to get Bledsoe back in a trade (or at the very least he'd be going to a 3rd team)...

Oh, here’s the entire thing:

League sources say the Pacers have talked with the Bucks about a trade involving Oladipo, though at this point it seems unlikely. Oladipo could be acquirable for the right price if the Sixers wanted to bet on a return to his pre-injury form.

Probably the same thing Zach Lowe briefly mentioned in his podcast with Bill Simmons, but appears to have been closed. One might imagine that the Nate hiring and Pritchards communication with Oladipo he referenced help clear some things up.

Otherwise, Donte Divincenzo is their only rookie contract guy of interest.

In terms of salary matching, they would have a lot of expiring money. George Hill and Ersan Ilyasova make enough to work legally.

Or, something bigger around Middleton?

I'd much rather have DDV over Middleton, to be honest

Of course, value wise Middleton is preferable over DDV, but he's expensive and I question his fit with the team

Maybe a bigger deal where we get DDV, while Bucks send Middleton to a 3rd team, and the 3rd team compensates both the Bucks and Pacers

I'll say this. Middleton is a guy that might not make sense as the best high profile, headline news on ESPN every other day type of pairing for a 2x MVP in the hunt for a championship, but he could definitely be a core piece of an overachieving small market team. If the Bucks are having buyer's remorse on that contract, I'd gladly take it off their hands.

He put up 21/6/4 last year on 50/42/92.
Vic's put up 23/4/5 on 47/37/80 during his breakout year, for comparison.

he's an example of the type of player I wished we'd signed a year ago. he's a year old now and so way down my list of options.

DDV and picks is such an underwhelming package. Outside of Middleton there really isn't anyone on the roster I'd hope we have interest in.

From Zach Lowe’s newest entry and off-season primer.
The Bucks are also eyeing Indiana's Victor Oladipo, though no substantive talks with the Pacers have taken place, sources say. Other teams are monitoring the Oladipo situation, but several of them would like to see Oladipo in action before engaging Indiana, sources say.

Oladipo has struggled since his leg injury in January 2019, but he's only 28 and two years removed from an All-NBA season -- and on an expiring contract, which might deflate his trade value. If you don't give up too much now, letting Oladipo walk after the season (in the worst case) doesn't kill you. If Oladipo recovers 90% of peak form, any team that trades for him has a leg up on re-signing him (or extending him) through his prime.

The New York Knicks had past interest in Oladipo, sources say, but they might have shifted into "wait and watch" mode. Oladipo would be an interesting fallback option as the Brooklyn Nets' "third star," though I'd be very surprised if Brooklyn dealt Caris LeVert for him.

It would not surprise me if Oladipo and the Pacers come back to the table on extension talks. (Oladipo can sign an extension at any point during the season.) Indiana can offer him a four-year deal starting at $25 million per season. I'm not sure the Pacers would approach that number, but considering Oladipo's recent play -- and that some potential suitors, including the Miami Heat, have likely backed away -- he would be wise to consider securing something.

• The broader issue is what Milwaukee can offer for Oladipo (or Jrue Holiday) -- something like Eric Bledsoe, Donte DiVincenzo, filler salary, and an extra first-round pick (or two) that will be low if Antetokounmpo stays. Bledsoe's trade value has cratered. The Pacers are probably not in any hurry to reunite the Malcolm Brogdon/Bledsoe backcourt; would Milwaukee have to find a three-team deal sending Bledsoe elsewhere?

The Bucks could sweeten the pot by trading lightly protected first-rounders further out -- picks that could become valuable (dangerously so from Milwaukee's perspective) if Antetokounmpo leaves.

There’s also a brief mention that if Charlotte does want Wiseman, but isn’t willing to pay GS to move up and get him instead of GS or someone else jumping them, they may take Okongwu, or look at dealing for a veteran on a long term deal like Myles Turner. That’s about it there though for Pacers mentions.

Off on a tangent, that injury to Vic is some serious stroke of misfortune

The team basically had to tread water for two years due to that

If indeed his knee has been bothering him before he ruptured his quad tendon, is it unreasonable to say that the Pacers athletic trainers screwed up big time not detecting the potential injury?

No. Not really. A tendon weakening doesn't inherently lead to rupture, and it doesn't show up well in scans and the sort. It's really a freak injury that in hindsight can connect the dots, but not until it happens. :dontknow:

Starting to look like we really won't get much in exchange for Vic at this point. Hope he can come back strong to showcase or to stay.

We’re covered the possibility of Victor Oladipo coming to the Miami Heat a lot here. And in his recent mega-preview of the NBA offseason, ESPN’s Zach Lowe added a tidbit about Miami’s interest in the former All-Star.

Lowe said that it would not surprise him to see Oladipo and the Indiana Pacers discuss a contract extension because “some potential suitors, like the Miami Heat, have likely backed away.”

There’s a little more to that but I quoted the article that’s based off of just a couple posts up in this thread.

As for the Miami, I completely understand. The emergence of Tyler Herro totally complicated that situation for Oladipo, if he were to want to be there at all (which, it sounds like it’s his preferred alternative if it doesn’t work here in Indians, which is his overall preference to stay, even according to the Miami Herald sports writers).

Otherwise, the other thing is that if teams want to see him return before making offers, and he returns close to his original health, the price will rise, too. Sure, he’ll still be a potential rental, but the health won’t be a question and theoretically, he’d be the single highest impact player available on the market midseason.

Question here...

If the Pacers were to sign Victor Oladipo to an extension, would the have to wait like 3 months before he is eligible to be traded?

If he signed an extension in 2020-21 he'd have a trade restriction like a PPP but I'm not sure about the details. Scoot could answer that better than me.

6 months, I believe. Which, this year, would put him past the trade deadline it appears. He’d be a Pacer for at least the full season.

An extend and trade is possible too, but he’d be dealt at the exact moment or signing an extension and would be eligible for lower raises and less years than if he just extended with Indy separate of a trade.

Chris Lindsay of SI.com wrote a piece on the priorities of each team this off season.

Full article here: https://www.si.com/nba/2020/10/26/nba-roster-needs-for-every-team?li_source=LI&li_medium=m2m-rcw-sports-illustrated

Below is what he wrote on IND.

Indiana Pacers

Priority: Trade Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon that ended his 2018–19 campaign prematurely. This past year he appeared in 19 games and showed flashes of his old self, but not quite enough for the franchise to commit max dollars to keep him on board for the long haul. He logged 14.5 points 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

One of the biggest fears for an organization is losing a valuable asset for nothing in return. Regardless of whether he returns to his ceiling immediately, Oladipo is a valuable asset. He’s due to become a free agent in 2021, and it is in the organization’s best interest to explore the market to see what they can get for him. The Pacers are no stranger to this school of thought. They received Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis in a deal with the Thunder because Paul George wanted out. The difference between this scenario and the George scenario is the role that his health plays into the equation. Teams could be hesitant to trade significant assets if they feel they could lure him away in free agency next year.

Just dunno if it's doable for this offseason. Other writers and their sources have espoused a "wait-and-see" approach to VO. Whatever happens, I'm hoping we get good value in return. That includes him returning to form and extending. 8-)

The media talking heads like to say stuff like "Indy HAS to trade Vic this offseason" because they want to see him go to a bigger market for a mediocre return. That's just how the media works, but the Pacers should still bide their time and do it right.

By the time the trade deadline comes around, there definitely will be a team on the cusp of contention with a strong desire to make a chess move that'll put them over the top.

the Star now has articles by JMichael and Doyle that are very negative on Vic. sure sounds like a trade is inevitable and I can even see doing what we once did with Tinsley and just sending him home.

Also, on Twitter, this is Vic’s twin sister replying to fans, and Myles taking umbrage with it.

The rumors would go away if he would address the rumors and say that he still wants to be here... yet he is choosing not to.
