Chase Hughes: John Calipari on ESPN2 says Tyrese Maxey will be the next Jamal Murray or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, i.e. a Kentucky guard overlooked in the draft who later proves better suited for the NBA level. Could have cited Herro and Booker as well.

I'm not crazy about this kid, but I do believe he'll ultimately be a productive player. Should be a target if we trade back a few spots.

2020 NBA Draft Big Board

8. Tyrese Maxey (Kentucky, SG, Freshman)

Image

Disappointing percentages haven't scared me from keeping Tyrese Maxey in the top 10. I'm buying his shot-making, floater touch, coordinated finishing, pick-and-roll play and tough defense.

His range from deep and 83.3 free-throw percentage seem like promising indicators—even if he did hit only 29.2 percent of his threes.

While I am skeptical about his potential to morph into a lead point guard and primary playmaker, translatable scoring skills and defense are his selling points.

NBA Mock Draft, Volume Two

1. Lamelo Ball
2. James Wiseman
3. Anthony Edwards

6. Atlanta: PG/SG Tyrese Haliburton
Adding a backup to Trae Young this offseason should be a priority for the Hawks, and in Haliburton they’d add a lead guard who also has the size and defensive ability needed to share the floor with Atlanta’s star attraction on occasion. The former Iowa State guard missed a significant portion of last season due to a wrist injury, but that shouldn’t be a concern as Haliburton is back to full strength. What is also appealing here is his ability to knock down perimeter shots, as Haliburton shot 41.9 percent from three with an average of 5.6 attempts per game.

This is old but I just watched it and I wanted Okongwu before but now I find out he’s a tennis player. Please take this kid if he’s on the board. He has that IT factor. Saw him live maybe that’s why but there is serious authenticity here. Footwork is going to be nice.

He's expected to be available at pick 17 and the Wolves should take a very long look at him. Right up there with Okoro and Okongwu as the best defender in the draft.
